Tokyo, January 30, 2025: CDP, the global environmental disclosure non-profit, today announced that CEO Sherry Madera has been appointed to the Global Advisory Council of Japan's GX Acceleration Agency. The appointment comes as part of the agency's initiative to strengthen its international networks and enhance global communication on green transformation (GX).

The GX Acceleration Agency, launched in July 2024, aims to realize over 150 trillion yen in public and private sector GX investments over the next decade. The agency will play a crucial role in Japan's transition to a decarbonized economy by providing financial support such as debt guarantees and administering the country's carbon pricing mechanism from FY2026.

Sherry Madera is a prominent thought leader on sustainability, with a focus on sustainable finance, environmental data and public policy. As CEO at CDP, Sherry manages a global leadership team and staff across the UK, Europe, North America, Singapore, Japan, China and Latin America. Previously, as Senior Vice President, Public Policy for Mastercard, Sherry led on identifying trends and issues that are a priority for governments, industry and regulators for strategic engagement. She is also author of the book Navigating Sustainability Data: How Organizations can use ESG Data to Secure Their Future, published in January 2024.

As a member of the Global Advisory Council, Madera joins a distinguished group of international experts in sustainable finance, impact investing, and sustainability disclosure. The council will provide strategic advice on Japan's GX policy initiatives and help strengthen the international communication of the country's green transformation agenda.

"At this critical juncture for our planet, transparency and data-driven decision-making are more important than ever. For 25 years, CDP has demonstrated that transparency drives action at all levels. As we face mounting environmental challenges, the work of organizations like the GX Acceleration Agency is crucial in driving the change we need,” Madera said.

“As the world's fourth-largest economy and a leading industrial power, Japan's transition to a low-carbon future is essential for global environmental progress. The country has already shown leadership through its corporate sector, with more companies committed to science-based emissions targets than any other nation. I look forward to bringing CDP's expertise in environmental disclosure and our experience in driving Earth-positive decisions to support Japan's ambitious green transformation agenda."
