CDP and Google.org Launch Fellowship to Supercharge Environmental Action with AI

London, UK – March 10, 2026 – CDP, the global non-profit that runs the world's largest independent environmental disclosure system, today announced a Google.org Fellowship. A dedicated team of Google.org Fellows will support CDP in building an innovative, AI-powered tool to transform how cities, states, and regions use CDP’s environmental dataset to help them reduce risk and drive action for the future.

“CDP isn’t just the world’s only independent platform for corporate sustainability reporting – we also surface climate resilience projects across more than 1,000 cities, states, and regions worldwide. Our data shows a sharp surge in financing requirements for subnational governments soaring to a record US$105 billion. The message is clear: the urgency for increased financial flows has never been greater,” said Sherry Madera, CEO of CDP.

“We’re proud to be supported by Google.org in building a transformational tool that brings CDP’s powerful data to life and accelerates real-world action. By unlocking the full force of CDP’s unmatched environmental dataset with Google’s talent and cutting-edge AI, we’re equipping subnational leaders with the insight to improve lives, strengthen communities, and drive meaningful, earth-positive decisions at scale.”

Subnational governments face escalating physical climate and nature-related risks but lack an integrated, accessible way to fully understand their exposure, identify effective adaptation and mitigation actions and opportunities, and signal their funding and financing needs to funders and partners. Despite clear city leadership and ambition, current urban climate finance flows remain far below the substantial investment needed annually. With climate impacts accelerating, this new tool will equip subnational leaders with additional clarity they urgently need to move from data to action – helping safeguard communities, protect livelihoods and drive change where it matters most.

The Google.org Fellowship brings top talent from across Google – including AI specialists, UX designers, and software engineers – for six months on a pro-bono basis. They will support building an open-source platform by integrating Google's latest AI and Cloud technology with CDP's vast cities, states and regions dataset. The new platform will move beyond static reports to offer tailored, actionable intelligence that helps leaders diagnose climate risks and identify the most effective Earth-positive pathways.

"The Google.org Fellowship program is one of our most effective models for bringing Google's technical expertise to help non-profit organizations accelerate their impact," said Maggie Johnson, Global Head at Google.org. "We believe technology can be a powerful force multiplier, and AI in particular has the power to fundamentally transform how we generate insights from data."
