CDP welcomes robust governance and transparency of methodologies surrounding ESG ratings and associated products and services, and is committed to transparency, integrity and the delivery of high-quality environmental data.
As jurisdictions draft and implement regulation on ESG ratings, CDP continues to engage proactively on requirements. Ultimately, these regulations are focused on robust governance, management of conflicts of interest, and transparency in methodologies, all of which are at the heart of our mission and already a significant part of CDP’s operations.
On this page, you can find information on our approach and response to specific regulatory requirements as well as details of the voluntary codes of conduct we endorse. All relevant documents related to regulatory disclosure are published below.
Regulatory overview
EU ESGRR
The EU ESG Ratings Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/3005) (EU ESGRR) applies from July 2, 2026. It establishes a harmonized authorization and supervision regime for ESG rating providers operating in the European Union, overseen by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). The aim is to strengthen the quality, transparency, and governance of ESG ratings.
CDP is fully engaged with the requirements of the EU ESGRR. We will be applying for authorization, are actively preparing for the authorization process, and will continue to deliver robust, transparent and methodologically sound information that supports reliable ESG analysis.
As part of our preparations, we will be making some operational changes, as announced as part of our CDP Evolution announcement. This includes the creation of a new consulting arm as a separate legal entity to house CDP's existing consulting services. This structural separation strengthens independence, ensures robust governance, and effectively manages potential conflicts of interest.
More information on changes and what they mean for our stakeholders will be provided over the coming months as we implement new ways of working.

Ownership Chart
In June 2026, we announced CDP’s evolution into separate organizations: a non-profit (CDP Foundation) and a commercial entity (CDP) – united in a shared ambition to surface new information, enabling Earth-positive decisions to protect future generations.
A new consulting arm will be established as a separate legal entity, ensuring the continued independence and objectivity of CDP's ESG ratings.
The new ownership comes into effect at the point this separation completes – in about three to six months. We will publish the new ownership chart at that point.
