Global Palm Oil Outlook 2025
Learn more about the barriers and pathways to deforestation-free, smallholder inclusion, and resilient landscapes in the palm oil sector.
Launched at the Sustainable Palm Oil Dialogue (SPOD) event on 9 June 2026 (Chester, England), this global report examines how market shifts, regulation and procurement practices are shaping the transition to deforestation-free, smallholder-inclusive palm oil production from resilient landscapes. In collaboration with IDH, NewForesight used CDP insights to assess how market dynamics, standards, and regulations shape the barriers and pathways to deforestation-free, smallholder-inclusive palm oil and resilient landscapes.
Drawing on recent CDP and IDH analysis, the report shows that progress is advancing but remains uneven: demand is shifting towards markets with weaker sustainability requirements, raising the risk of a split between regulated and conventional supply chains. The report finds that independent smallholders remain largely excluded because the legal, traceability and financing systems needed to support compliance are still missing at scale.
It also highlights that many of the barriers to progress cannot be resolved through corporate action alone and require stronger public coordination. While landscape and jurisdictional approaches show promise, scaling remains limited. The report concludes that future progress depends on embedding inclusion, legality and resilience, especially in fast-growing domestic and Asian markets.
