How Cellnex Incentivizes Environmental Action
Cellnex, Europe’s largest telecommunications towers and infrastructures operator, has a target to reduce its scope 3 emissions by 21% by 2025.
To achieve this, the company has directly engaged its suppliers through a range of initiatives. Each year, Cellnex invites a significant number of its suppliers to respond to the CDP questionnaire. In 2024, this represented 79% of the company’s purchases. Last year, the supplier response rate was 80%, leading to a marked increase in awareness and action on greenhouse gas emissions.
Cellnex has also created a condition in its tender process whereby suppliers must report their carbon footprint to CDP and submit a plan to reduce their emissions for the duration of the contracts awarded.
In a separate innovation as part of Cellnex's supply chain finance program, the company partners with Santander to offer discounted rates to suppliers reporting to CDP. Suppliers that obtain the best CDP score are rewarded with a bonus from the bank.
