From Transition Plans to Capital: Aligning Investors and Companies in Canada

Join us to explore how transition plans can move beyond disclosure toward implementation and capital allocation.

Date and time: September 9, 2026 15:00 to 17:00 EDT

Venue: BMO Global Asset Management, 24th Floor, 100 King St. West, First Canadian Place, Toronto, Ontario M5X 1H3

Research by Business Future Pathways, underpinned by CDP data, has highlighted both growing uptake of transition planning in Canada and persistent gaps in consistency, implementation and alignment between financial institutions and companies. Business Future Pathways, in collaboration with the Canadian Climate Institute, is now undertaking a next phase of work to develop standardized, practical guidance on credible transition plans grounded in the Canadian context, informed by investor and corporate perspectives.

At the same time, CDP’s global work on transition finance and its newly developed assessment methodology for credible transition plans provide a benchmark for how investors assess transition risk and capital alignment across markets. Together, these insights point to a critical opportunity: to reconcile global best practice with Canadian realities, and to clarify what investors need to see for transition plans to meaningfully inform financing decisions. This is particularly important for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), where capacity and access to capital remain key challenges.

Join us for this event convening investors, companies, and experts to explore how transition plans can move beyond disclosure toward implementation and capital allocation. The insights from this workshop will help inform and shape forthcoming market guidance from Canada’s new independent Taxonomy and Transition Planning Council, slated for public release in 2027.
