Job Purpose and Background
CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual to join its Forests team and support the delivery of on-going grant deliverables and the implementation of our new thematic strategy. We are looking for a motivated self-starter with a keen interest in working towards reducing and ultimately removing deforestation from corporate supply chains.
Deforestation currently accounts for 10-15% of the world’s GHG emissions. Halting deforestation is critical to global efforts to prevent and mitigate climate change. Businesses’ production and procurement decisions have the power to alter global demand for the agricultural commodities that are the primary drivers of deforestation and forest degradation.
CDP works to remove commodity-driven deforestation from corporate value chains, to effectively contribute to a below 2-degree, water-secure world, and to decouple deforestation from forest-risk commodity production. CDP’s work on forests was launched in 2014 and now boasts the backing of more than 650 financial institutions with over $87 trillion in assets. CDP collects critical forests-related data from the world’s largest corporations that buy, sell or trade key forest-risk commodities (palm oil, soy, livestock and timber products). This data is used to inform the global market place on investment risk and commercial opportunity, and to catalyse action, supporting companies in their efforts to remove deforestation from their supply chains.
CDP is an international non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests through standardized monitoring, reporting and analysis. Voted number one climate research provider by investors and working with institutional investors with assets of US$87 trillion, we leverage investor and buyer power to motivate companies to disclose and manage their environmental impacts. Over 6,300 companies with some 55% of global market capitalization disclosed environmental data through CDP in 2017. This is in addition to the over 500 cities and 100 states and regions who disclosed, making CDP’s platform one of the richest sources of information globally on how companies and governments are driving environmental change. Since its launch in 2000, CDP has been built on the belief that transparency and accountability drives positive change in the world of business and investment. We have key hubs in London, New York and Berlin. CDP is also a founding member of the We Mean Business Coalition.
