Senior Development Officer, Trusts And Foundations

CDP’s Global Development Team is ambitious, dynamic and at the heart of everything that CDP does. As Senior Development Officer, Trusts and Foundations, your focus will be on identifying and researching potential Trust and Foundation donors, strategic development and management of relationships with Trusts & Foundations and ensuring effective systems and processes are in place for managing funder records and analyzing income trends. Working closely with CDP colleagues from a range of teams in the UK and overseas, you will bring your extensive experience to bear in researching new donors and managing a portfolio of current donors - developing successful applications and cultivating strong relationships. CDP secures around £8million from grants and there is significant potential for growth.

This is a new role and to succeed you’ll be the kind of person who builds strong relationships with colleagues, grasps complex concepts quickly and communicates them clearly in ways that appeal to funders. As with any expanding organisation there are challenges – you’ll need to be determined, tenacious and focused on solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Research new prospects, maintaining a record of potential new funders and developing funder profiles.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with trusts and foundations and potentially with individual donors who may give through personal trusts.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic cultivation and stewardship plans for prospective donors.
  • Work with program and finance staff to prepare compelling proposals, reports, and collateral materials; and review proposals produced by CPD country offices.
  • Maintain a pipeline of funding opportunities and proposals and their status, and ensure effective systems and processes are in place for managing funder records and analyzing income trends.
  • Develop the knowledge base to be a strong advocate of CDP's work and be able to present it in a compelling way to external audiences.
  • Support key internal Development Team projects.

Person specification

  • Demonstrable experience of developing successful proposals and budgets for trust and foundations, preferably in the international sector.
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear, engaging way.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and promote dialogue between a range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, meet objectives and deadlines under pressure.
  • Highly accurate with strong attention to detail, and able to review a high volume of information quickly and accurately, taking responsibility for its quality.

Conditions

This is a full-time role based at CDP’s Central London office reporting to CDP’s Development Manager, Trusts and Foundations. Flexible working will be considered.

Salary and benefits: £27,000-35,000 per annum dependent on experience, annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and other benefits.

Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.
