Sustainable Infrastructure Senior Program Manager (Cities, States and Regions)

CDP North America, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, entrepreneurial individual with proven self-starter skills to represent CDP globally in the infrastructure finance arena.

Job purpose/summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing CDP’s global Matchmaker program which advances implementation of climate resilient infrastructure projects through project data disclosure and stakeholder consultation.

The Senior Program Manager is responsible for managing and implementing current deliverables as well as supporting new funding opportunities related to the global Matchmaker program. The Senior Program Manager will work with Matchmaker subscribers and participating cities. The Manager will lead CDP’s engagement with existing partners and help to identify new strategic partnerships for sustainable infrastructure. The Manager will integrate and work across the CDP Investor Initiatives and Cities, States and Regions team.

This role advances CDP’s objective to increase the level of investment in climate-friendly urban infrastructure projects and contribute to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions and climate adaptation and resiliency efforts. The Sustainable Infrastructure Senior Program Manager will report to CDP's head of CStaR (Cities, States and Regions) for North America. The Senior Program Manager will work closely with the two team members who support cities and investors affiliated with the Matchmaker initiative.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop a project grading framework for cities’ climate and sustainability projects which includes consultation with select partners and apply framework to projects disclosed to CDP
  • Develop and oversee project preparation deep dives which includes working with and contracting external consultants and experts in the field
  • Manage and cultivate new strategic relationships with entities working with cities and sustainable infrastructure
  • Responsible for managing grant requirements and program deliverables for Matchmaker
  • Produce insights and analysis and write reports related to Matchmaker
  • Identify new funding opportunities and develop funding proposals
  • Present at conferences, virtual webinars and other events;
  • Support and develop workshop and convenings related to cities and finance
  • Work with members in the CDP Cities, States and Regions and Investor Initiatives team to ensure Matchmaker activities are well integrated into CDP’s programmatic activities

Required skills and experience:

  • Passionate about the mission of CDP and in supporting cities to achieve their climate, energy and adaptation goals
  • Demonstrated experience in climate change, adaptation, city resilience, policy and/or municipal finance.
  • Knowledge of project or infrastructure finance or a related field working with investors interested in climate project or city-related investments with a firm handle on business models for sustainable infrastructure
  • Familiarity with metrics related to ESG, UN Sustainable Development Goals, social equity and a just transition
  • Understanding of current frameworks, scoring and benchmarking tools related to cities and sustainable infrastructure or other applicable frameworks
  • Task-driven and detail-oriented project manager with a record of planning and managing multiple deliverables with high quality results in tight timelines
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills in English. Other languages a plus.
  • Experience producing technical and analytical reports as well as grant proposals
  • Strong partnership skills and ability to identify new funding opportunities
  • A flexible but diligent working style, with proven record of working within a team
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and desire to own and drive the delivery of successful projects
  • Experience hiring and working with external consultants is desirable.

The role is based in CDP’s offices in New York. The successful candidate will be provided with a contract for a fixed term of 12 months starting in early 2019. International travel may be required.
