As a Project Officer for the Cities, States and Regions team you will have an understanding of local governments and climate change and have excellent organisational skills to encourage cities to participate in the WWF’s One Planet City Challenge (OPCC) initiative and to report their data to a high standard.

The successful candidate will be at the heart of the engagement work of the Cities, States and Regions team with a focus on coordinating activities with CDP’s global engagement teams to support city participation to the OPCC initiative. The role also involves project management within CDP to ensure the WWF partnership is executed effectively, as well as working in close collaboration with our partner WWF to ensure a smooth disclosure process for the OPCC.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s work on the OPCC initiative.

Key responsibilities

  • Engaging directly with city representatives to encourage them to disclose, by making phone calls, sending personalised emails, organising webinars, in-person meetings, and other outreach methods
  • Project manage the execution and tracking of the project internally at CDP, following the standard processes and resources defined by CDP’s Project Management Office, and ensure project deliverables are met
  • Coordinating day to day operational and engagement tasks to effectively run the OPCC initiative through CDP’s 2021 disclosure process
  • Coordinating engagement activities with CDP’s regional teams as well as the operations team, by coordinating complex mailouts, webinars, and communications to cities in relation to the OPCC
  • Developing engagement and guidance for cities and improve existing resources and processes for effective engagement
  • Supporting the annual climate change reporting process for cities and their participation to the OPCC in priority areas such as Europe, Australia, and New Zealand
  • Being the point of contact for answering technical queries relating to the OPCC from cities and team members
  • Managing contacts and ensuring they remain up to date for the smooth running of the disclosure cycle

Required experience and skills:

  • BA/BSc degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 2 years of work experience, ideally in a related area
  • An interest and understanding of the role that city governments play in addressing the climate crisis
  • Experience with external communication, including building strong relationships and engaging with external stakeholders
  • Previous experience of sales is a plus, and being comfortable picking up the phone and calling cities
  • Proven ability to manage competing demands of internal and external stakeholders
  • Exceptional organisational skills and great attention to detail
  • High proficiency in the English language
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal; ability to explain complex or challenging topics clearly and succinctly
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Power Point)
  • Interest and ability to quickly learn how to work with IT systems (e.g., CRM)

Desirable:

  • Experience working across a global team
  • High proficiency in at least one European language. Spanish, Portuguese and German will be given priority

The role is a full-time role based in CDP’s Central London Office (virtually at first) and sits within the Cities, States and Regions team, with a reporting line to the Associate Director, Operations. The successful candidate will be expected to work 5 days per week and may require the candidate to be willing to work flexible non-standard working hours. This is a fixed term seven-month contract, starting asap.

Salary and benefits: £25,000 - 27,500 GBP salary (pro-rated), flexible working, annual discretionary bonus, 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.

To apply please email your CV and a covering letter setting out how you meet the required skills and experience or key responsibilities, which should be no more than four pages in total, to [email protected] with ‘Project Officer - OPCC, CSTAR, First name, Last name’ in the subject line.
