MRV Technical Manager, Science Based Targets (Fixed-Term)
We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s work on the Science Based Targets Initiative.
About the SBTi: The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a joint initiative between CDP, UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and World Wildlife Fund, aiming to catalyze change towards a net-zero economy by driving the adoption of GHG emission reduction targets in the corporate sector that are consistent with the ambition required to keep temperature increase well-below 2°C. Over 1,000 of the world’s largest and most influential companies have joined the Science Based Targets initiative to date.
About the position:
The SBTi MRV Technical Manager is a new position, which will sit on the SBTi Target Validation Team. This position was created to lead on the technical development and implementation of a Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) framework for science-based target setting.
About you:
The ideal candidate will have deep technical expertise in the area of corporate emissions accounting and target-setting, understanding of the detailed nuances and complexities of this topic. This role will require project management, frequent internal and external collaboration, and flexibility working with a dynamic and fast-paced team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Project
manage the ongoing development of the SBTi’s Measurement, Reporting, and
Verification (MRV) framework on target setting, which will define
expectations on science-based target progress reporting and achievement
- Oversee
and contribute to the development of the technical deliverables comprising
the MRV framework
- Collect,
analyze, and interpret data to assess current state of corporate target setting
transparency and accountability
- Coordinate
engagement with internal and external stakeholders on the framework (e.g.
SBTi Core Team, SBTi Technical Advisory Group, related NGOs and coalitions,
etc.)
- Contribute
to communication materials and collaterals related to the SBTi MRV
framework, e.g. relevant blog posts
- Contribute
to the development of strategic partnerships related to the SBTi MRV
framework
- Create
and execute a long-term plan for MRV framework implementation and
continued development
- Work
as a member of the SBTi’s Target Validation Team, reporting to the Target
Validation Manager
- Assist
with ad-hoc tasks as required.
Required skills and experience:
- 3+
years of professional experience, primarily in the corporate climate
action space
- Technical
and applied knowledge of relevant concepts and standards around corporate GHG
accounting and corporate climate target-setting
- Understanding
the drivers for, and practical challenges of, implementing climate action
strategies across businesses’ operations and value chains
- Excellent
project management skills
- Excellent
writing skills, including the ability to make complex technical subjects
accessible to non-expert audiences
- Ability
to work collaboratively in a culturally and geographically diverse
professional environment
Desirable skills and experience:
- Experience
in sustainability standard setting processes and/or development of MRV
frameworks
- Experience
with data visualization and comfort working with large data sets
- Experience
working in global organizations and /or contexts
- Experience
working in remote teams
- This is a full-time fixed term position for one year, with possibility of extension for a second year.

Location: Berlin, London, New York
