Development Manager

Job purpose/summary

CDP Latin America is seeking a seasoned Development Manager who will serve as part of CDP's Global Development team, which focuses on the strategic development and management of funder relationships. Half of CDP’s global income comes from grants and there is significant potential to expand and strengthen our relationships and income in Latin America and internationally. S/he will help secure funding from foundations and governments by supporting and leading the cultivation and solicitation process for a portfolio of prospects. Working closely with CDP colleagues from a range of teams, s/he will write high quality, tailored concept notes and applications, and support consortium building for high value multi stakeholder funding opportunities.

This is a new role in an expanding global team to support the achievement of CDP Latin America income targets aligned and integrated within Global income targets. To succeed you’ll be the kind of person who builds strong relationships with colleagues, grasps complex concepts quickly and communicates them clearly in ways that appeal to funders, and be passionate about the work that we do. As with any expanding organisation there are challenges – you’ll need to be determined, tenacious and focused on solutions.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of creative, high quality, tailored concept notes, applications and reports to foundations and government funding bodies;
  • Develop and implement strategic cultivation and stewardship plans for prospective donors, primarily in Latin America, including regular meetings and phone calls;
  • Research and document new funder prospects and opportunities in Latin America, producing internal funder profiles as needed;
  • Lead partnership and consortium development efforts in Latin America;
  • Working closely with CDP colleagues, produce high quality supporting documents for funding applications such as budgets and log frames;
  • Work with thematic and stakeholder team and finance staff to prepare compelling proposals, reports, and collateral materials;
  • Raise the profile of CDP Latin America with funding bodies, ensuring CDP is at the cutting edge of emerging policies and other pertinent developments;
  • Develop the knowledge base to be a strong advocate of CDP’s work and be able to present it in a compelling way to external audiences;
  • Act as a focal point for Development in Latin America;
  • Local, regional and national travel as required (no more than 15%).

Required skills and experience:

  • At least five years relevant work experience in development, raising funds from philanthropic organization and/or government institutions.
  • Excellent written skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear, engaging way.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage and promote dialogue between a range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage time effectively, being meticulously organized and detail-oriented;
  • Proven ability to work on own initiative, meet multiple objectives and deadlines under pressure.
  • Highly accurate with strong attention to detail, and able to review a high volume of information quickly and accurately, taking responsibility for its quality.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish.

Benefits

  • Competitive NGO salary, annual bonus, food and travel assistance, health care, private pension fund, 30 days holiday and Spanish classes in company.

Eligibility requirements

  • The candidate will be expected to work full-time (8 hours per day, 5 days per week)
