Asia Pacific Senior Manager, Cities, States and Regions (Maternity Cover)

Are you passionate about local and subnational climate action? Do you think engaging with cities, states and regions across Asia Pacific can be an impactful lever for change?

If you are passionate about climate and environmental action and want to contribute to a professional and fast paced NGO, this is the role for you. The Asia Pacific Senior Manager, Cities, States and Regions is responsible for driving CDP’s work with local and subnational governments in Asia Pacific as they disclose their climate change impacts, risks and actions, overseeing the delivery of a select number of funded projects, managing a regional team, and leading Asia Pacific partnerships and fundraising for the Cities, States and Regions work in coordination with internal teams. You will have experience in climate change or the environmental sector, a track record in client or stakeholder-facing roles, partnerships and fundraising, and the ability to lead a diverse team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring continued annual participation in CDP’s Cities, States and Regions program in the Asia Pacific region, and recruit new cities, states and regions to the program;
  • Managing a regional team and working closely with CDP senior leaders in Asia;
  • Overseeing the delivery of funded projects related to climate change and deforestation in cities, states and regions in Asia;
  • Fundraising through proposal writing and close coordination with relevant internal teams;
  • Leading the expansion of CDP’s Cities, States and Regions work in Asia Pacific through new opportunities and collaborations;
  • Ensuring strong coordination with the global Cities, States and Regions and operational teams to implement disclosure-related activities in Asia Pacific;
  • Participating in Cities, States and Regions leadership meetings and actively contributing to programmatic decision-making;
  • Representing CDP at external events and meetings through speaking opportunities.

Required skills and experience:

  • Minimum BA/BSc or an equivalent degree;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • 6+ years professional experience in climate change, environment, sustainability and/or local/regional government roles;
  • Management of a diverse team, preferably in both face-to-face and virtual settings;
  • Exceptional communication and people skills;
  • Proven knowledge in local and subnational climate and environmental issues;
  • Project management and delivery;
  • Writing proposals for funding purposes, often under tight deadlines;
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of teams and external stakeholders, and liaising across different time zones and cultures;
  • Competency in computer skills and proven ability to learn and become proficient in new IT systems quickly.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Competency in one or more Asian languages;
  • A working understanding of climate commitments, policies and actions undertaken by local and subnational governments;
  • Experience and/or knowledge on issues related to deforestation in Southeast Asia.

This is a full-time fixed contract role for a minimum of 7 months with the potential for extension based in CDP’s Hong Kong office reporting to the Director, Hong Kong and Associate Director, Cities, States and Regions based in the UK.

Salary and benefits: Competitive NGO salary dependent on experience, flexible working opportunities, annual discretionary bonus (depending on the organisation’s performance), training and development, and others.
