Internship (Cities, States & Regions)

Do you want to kick-start your career in sustainability and climate change? Are you passionate about urban climate action, particularly in the Asia Pacific region?

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join CDP’s Cities, States and Regions team to support climate change data disclosure from city governments across Asia Pacific in 2021, as well as analysis and generating insights to further accelerate ambitious local and subnational climate action. The intern will be responsible for engaging with city staff and should be comfortable discussing a variety of sustainability topics. Additional tasks include operational support, database management, research and analysis.

This is a full or part-time internship for a duration of 3 to 6 months based in CDP’s Hong Kong office. Interested applicants must be eligible to take up internships legally in Hong Kong. We offer flexible working arrangements during Covid-19, and interns may choose to work from the office or from home depending on their preference.

This is an unpaid internship. However, we cover expenses up to HKD 120 per working day for food and transport.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the Asia Pacific Cities, States and Regions team and working with the global team on the 2021 CDP disclosure cycle;
  • Driving engagement and relationship-building with city governments and staff in Asia Pacific;
  • Supporting all disclosure-related initiatives including webinars, handling queries, and reviews of cities’ CDP responses;
  • Maintaining and updating an internal database for all Asia Pacific contacts;
  • Conducting research and analysis on cities’ CDP data;
  • Supporting ad hoc projects, partnerships, research and events.

Required skills and experience:

  • Strong interest in cities, climate change and sustainability;
  • A positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills;
  • At least 2 years professional and/or academic experience in climate change, sustainability or local government roles;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Fluency in English and preferably one other Asian language (e.g. Mandarin, Korean, Bahasa Indonesian, etc.);
  • Strong attention to detail and process, in addition to organisation and the ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Competency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new IT systems quickly.
