Engagement Manager, ACT

Job purpose and background

The successful applicant will be responsible for delivering tasks to meet the goals of Assessing low-Carbon Transition (ACT). The ACT project aims to measure a company’s contribution to a low-carbon economy, and in partnership with the WBA, assesses and benchmarks companies within different sectors. Holding some of the world’s most climate impactful companies to account on their low-carbon transition, and assessing against the latest science based climate scenarios. To date 80 companies have been assessed and benchmarked, with the biggest benchmark to date of 100 Oil & Gas companies due to be launched in Q2 2021. This is an opportunity to be at the forefront of assessment and thinking about key sectors transition to a low-carbon economy.

The Engagement Manager will facilitate the company journey for companies who will be featured in the Climate & Energy Benchmark, resulting from the ACT-WBA partnership. Supporting the companies understanding of the project, encouraging engagement with the assessment and support ongoing understanding of the findings. In this role, you will co-ordinate the delivery of the corporate engagement strategy and will also undertake direct engagement with companies from a range of high climate impact sectors, initially focussed on Oil & Gas, Automotive and Electric Utilities. You will work with the wider ACT team to ensure a smooth experience for companies assessed and to support learnings and improvements which can be brought to the engagement process. Furthermore the role also works closely with the Corporations and Supply Chains (CSC) team, in particular company direct account managers, to ensure alignment and adherence to cross CSC processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensure ACT operates in a fashion that ensures a smooth experience for engaged companies, and facilitates the response to the data validation which is undertaken with each company;
  • Produce resources and webinars to support the companies journey through an ACT assessment and the wider benchmark publication;
  • Working with internal stakeholders and partners to explore synergies and coordinate on relevant decision making, coordination of input and application of central systems (such as Customer Relationship Management), ensuring ACT is aligning and informing these systems where relevant;
  • Supporting strategy and execution of ACT corporate engagement campaigns & communications that support increased uptake from companies and ensure a smooth experience for reporting companies.
  • Developing clear guidelines for company engagement processes and communications that supports a consistent approach both internally and with partners;
  • Ensure ACT supports CSC’s wider understanding of ACT objectives, principles and technical perspectives;
  • Support wider strategic objectives for ACT;
  • Contribute to comms and event planning;
  • Building relationships with key companies, partners and stakeholders through meeting attendance and presenting to relevant stakeholders;
  • The precise description and nature of the role may be varied from time and other duties as necessary may be required to be carried out.

Required skills and experience:

  • Account management experience, able to manage relationships responsibly, providing value to partners while establishing clear boundaries and keeping focus on CDP’s overall strategy;
  • Ability to work independently, with strong attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards;
  • Keen interest in corporate sustainability, climate change and related company challenges;
  • Ability to work with global colleagues, and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships;
  • Familiarity and experience working with Customer Relationship Management systems and Excel;
  • Degree educated or equivalent (Environment/Sustainability/Business - related degree desirable);
  • 2 years+ of professional experience;
  • A positive and enthusiastic team player with the ability to work collaboratively and to deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to understand and communicate complex topics related to climate change assessment to non-specialists.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Background in environment, environmental reporting frameworks and/or good understanding of or experience in climate change issues;
  • Good public speaking skills and ability to interact with high-level representatives from private and public sectors;
  • Knowledge of CDP questionnaire and reporting systems

This is a fixed term 7-month contract, full time role based at CDP’s London office reporting to the Manager, ACT-WBA. It is envisaged that this role will be extended, subject to funding.

Salary and benefits: £26,821 – £30,000 per annum, annual discretionary bonus, 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others. Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.
