November 19, 2018: Steven Tebbe, Managing Director of CDP Europe, has been appointed to EFRAG’s inaugural European Corporate Reporting Lab Steering Group.
Mr. Tebbe joins a group of up to 15 experts from civil society, business, academia and the finance sector, and joins for an initial term of two years.
The establishment of the group follows the call in the European Commission’s Action Plan ‘Financing Sustainable Growth’ for EFRAG to stimulate innovation in European corporate reporting by identifying and sharing best practice.
The Commission’s action plan aims to harness Europe’s financial system to support a sustainable economy which delivers on environmental and social goals.
The new ‘European Lab@EFRAG’ will be chaired by Jean-Paul Gauzès, Board President of EFRAG– the European Financial Reporting Advisory Group. The full composition of the group is available here.
Steven Tebbe said:
“I am thrilled to contribute to the European Lab’s work, which can play an important role in the Commission’s Action Plan to improve the quality of corporate reporting in Europe. Whether Europe successfully transitions to a low carbon, resource-secure economy relies on corporates providing investors with high quality, financially-relevant information. My role within this group will be to highlight the disclosure practices of leading European businesses and drive European leadership of corporate reporting on the global stage, while ensuring that CDP's experience with best practice initiatives like science-based targets is shared."
The focus of the group’s work will initially be on non-financial reporting, including disclosures in line with the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), but other topics may include environmental accounting and integrated reporting, digitalization, and other corporate reporting innovation.
Since 2011 Mr. Tebbe has led CDP Europe, the regional hub of an international non-profit which runs the global environmental disclosure system. More than 7000 companies reported data to CDP in 2018, in addition to 750 cities, states and regions.
For 2018’s reporting cycle, CDP evolved its disclosure platform by aligning its information request with the recommendations of the TCFD, which represents a new best practice standard for financially-relevant corporate climate reporting.
Mr. Tebbe is the second CDP Europe representative working towards the goals of the European Commission’s action plan. Nico Fettes, head of CDP’s climate rating for funds Climetrics, was appointed a member to the European Commission’s Technical Expert Group on Sustainable Finance in June, tasked specifically with improving climate-related disclosure standards.
