Senior Project Officer, Cities, States and Regions

Are you passionate about urban and regional climate action, particularly in the Asia region? Would you enjoy working with local and subnational governments to support their climate change mitigation, adaptation and resilience policies and plans through data collection, reporting and insights?

If you want to make your mark in a professional and fast paced NGO, this is the role for you. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join CDP’s Cities, States and Regions Asia Pacific team to support work with a select group of cities in Malaysia, Vietnam and South Korea on achieving their ambitious goals under the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, as well as general climate reporting and generating insights to further accelerate ambitious local and subnational climate action in the wider Asia Pacific region.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with city governments and local/regional partners to support cities on climate change reporting, GHG accounting, climate risks and vulnerability assessments, and general climate change data management;
  • Collaborating and communicating with the global Cities, States and Regions team to prepare for and drive the engagement of city and regional governments in Asia Pacific on climate change data and reporting;
  • Engaging city and regional governments on disclosure through CDP and partner initiatives, such as the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, including delivery of trainings.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least 2-3 years professional experience in climate change, environment, sustainability or local/regional government roles;
  • Demonstrate experience working with data, accounting and/or analytical tools;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Fluency in English and preferably one other Asian language (e.g. Vietnamese, Korean);
  • Knowledge and interest in urban climate change mitigation and adaptation issues;
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and deliver projects on time;
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of teams and external stakeholders, and liaising across different time zones and cultures;
  • Competency in computer skills, particularly MS Excel, and proven ability to learn and become proficient in new IT systems quickly.

Desired skills and experience:

  • A good understanding of GHG accounting methods and/or climate risk and vulnerability assessments.

This is a full-time fixed contract role based in CDP’s Hong Kong office, or local full-time fixed contract role based in South Korea or Vietnam, reporting to the Asia Pacific Lead, Cities, States and Regions.

Salary and benefits: Competitive NGO salary, 24 days’ holiday, and flexible working opportunities.
