Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the expansion of CDP’s Cities work in Japan through new opportunities and collaborations
  • Data analysis and support to regionally specific presentations, events, reports, etc
  • Attending relevant events and meetings with key stakeholders in Japan;
  • Supporting the implementation of global initiatives relevant to municipalities in Japan (e.g. Science-Based Targets for Cities, Race to Zero and Race to Resilience, Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy).

Required skills and experience:

  • Minimum BA/BSc or an equivalent degree;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge and interest in urban climate change adaptation and mitigation issues;

  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of teams and external stakeholders, and liaising across different time zones and cultures;
  • Competency in computer skills and proven ability to learn and become proficient in new IT systems quickly.

Desired skills and experience:

  • 2-3 years professional experience in climate change, environment, sustainability and/or local/regional government roles;
  • A working understanding of climate commitments, policies and actions undertaken by municipalities in Japan.

This is a full time fixed contract role for minimum 6 months (part-time option and contract period are negotiable) based in CDP’s Tokyo office reporting to the Senior Manager based in Japan and the Asia Pacific Lead, Cities, States and Regions based in Hong Kong. The expected start date of work will be April 2021.

Salary and benefits: Competitive NGO salary dependent on experience, flexible working opportunities, health insurance, welfare pension and others.
