Beyond the cycle: which oil and gas companies are ready for the low-carbon transition?
In this report we update and expand our research and League Table for oil and gas companies, first published in 2016.
The report ranks 24 of the largest and highest-impact publicly listed oil & gas companies on business readiness for a low carbon transition. The companies in aggregate represent 31% of global oil & gas production and 11% of proved reserves.

Production and use of oil & gas accounts for over half of global greenhouse gas emissions associated with energy consumption.

Spend
The companies have invested US$22 billion in alternative energies since 2017. However, low-carbon spend for the sector as a whole is low, expected to account for only 1.3% of total 2018 CAPEX.

The oil & gas sector is under increasing investor pressure - votes for climate shareholder resolutions at company AGMs more than doubled from 2014 to 2018.
