Corporate Engagement Manager, CDSB Secretariat

Corporate Engagement Manager, CDSB Secretariat

(Berlin-based, contract linked to 2-year project)

The CDSB Secretariat team is ambitious, dynamic and works to build environmentally and socially resilient capital markets through the inclusion of environmental, social and climate information into mainstream corporate reporting. We achieve our mission through close collaboration and engagement with companies, policymakers and other key stakeholders in sustainable finance, across the world.

The sustainable finance and ESG reporting landscape is evolving rapidly, which includes a shift from voluntary reporting to mandatory ESG reporting, strengthening of corporate governance codes and policies and convergence of reporting frameworks and standards. Europe is a key region within CDSB’s engagement activities, with our research demonstrating that the quality of corporate reporting in line with existing EU regulations on climate and sustainability information is falling well short of the intended purpose and decision usefulness for investors.

In response to these developments, companies globally are increasingly looking for guidance and support. To strengthen this transition, CDSB has been supporting these businesses through capacity building and training offerings. These include workshops, webinars, technical materials, guidance, in-house training and one-to-one engagement.

To continue to grow this activity, CDSB is seeking a motivated Corporate Engagement Manager. The successful candidate will have a relevant professional qualification and a track record in this area, with proven project management skills, entrepreneurial flair and solid understanding of ESG/sustainability disclosure ideally in the European context and reporting practice.

CDSB is an international, award-winning initiative and this position in the global Secretariat will provide the successful candidate with an exciting opportunity to make their mark on the corporate reporting landscape, helping to ensure the crucial interface between financial and non-financial information related to climate, the broader environment, as well as social issues.

CDP hosts the global Secretariat of CDSB, and the role will be based in CDP Europe’s offices in Berlin (with current working from home policy in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic).

Corporate Engagement Manager responsibilities include:

Driving and supporting the uptake of CDSB’s work and related material to a primarily corporate audience through:

  • Development and delivery of CDSB’s corporate engagement strategy in Europe, in collaboration with the wider project team and the CDP Europe corporate engagement team, enhancing our current activities to engage over 100 corporates/year on their sustainability reporting;
  • Building relationships with large listed companies to develop a large corporate network in Europe;
  • Running workshops with corporate representatives;
  • Delivery of an extensive series of workshops, events and webinars across Europe in collaboration with the Communications team;
  • Being the interface between companies and CDSB’s technical expertise, advising them on the case for reporting and providing guidance; and
  • Collecting corporate feedback on challenges with reporting, as well as on guidance produced by CDSB and providing structured feedback to the CDSB Technical Team.

Please note that some international travel may be required once it is safe to do so.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in corporate engagement/consulting in a sustainability-related role;
  • At least 6 years’ experience engaging with a business audience, ideally with a particular focus on accounting community, finance teams, the investor community and C-suite; or experience working within a corporate sustainability, finance or investor relations team; and
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills with an ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • Ability to process complex information;
  • A working understanding of the TCFD/EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and corporate reporting/disclosure requirements related to non-financial information;
  • A solution-oriented mindset;
  • Meticulous attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Excellent written and oral knowledge of English;
  • An understanding of and desire to work proactively to promote corporate sustainability.

Desirable:

  • Working knowledge of a European language other than English highly desirable though not essential;
  • Experience communicating to policymakers, regulators and governments.

What we offer:

  • Exciting and challenging tasks in a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated team;
  • Working with many dedicated and passionate people for a good cause;
  • Competitive NGO salary and annual bonus (depending on company results);
  • Company pension with Allianz;
  • 30 days annual holidays;
  • Monthly contribution to public transport ticket;

The successful candidate will work five days per week and must be able to work legally in Germany. This full-time role will preferably be located at our office in Berlin, Germany. The successful candidate will work closely with the global CDSB Secretariat and CDP Europe Corporate Engagement team and report to the Senior Project Manager, EU ESG Reporting, CDSB Secretariat.
