CDP works directly with companies, investors, cities, states and regions to drive implementation of the Paris Agreement and Sustainable Development Goals. To do this we forge powerful collaborations with leading organisations who share our mission.

In addition to our direct work with governments through a Memorandum of Understanding, CDP has a number of formal collaborations with other organisations.

We are an accredited observer to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), an accredited observer to UN Environment, have Consultative Status with UN Economic and Social Council, and are a Strategic Partner to UN Global Compact.

Capacity-building is at the heart of CDP’s work, cutting across all our activities. The CDP disclosure process starts with a request to disclose information about climate, water or forest impacts on behalf of institutional investors and major purchasers, and CDP works closely with both of these audiences all of the world to help them understand how to use the resulting data.

CDP conducts an international investor roadshow on an annual basis, taking the message out to key financial centres across continents and sharing best practice and innovation for incorporating environmental data into investment decisions. We also hold numerous investor webinars and publish an ongoing series of investment analysis reports which are designed to raise awareness and increase investor capacity.

For purchasing organisations who asks their suppliers to disclose, frequent webinars and calls are used to create a peer learning group who share best practice and ideas for driving performance improvements with one another as well as creating communities of interest who wish to focus on specific action opportunities. This activity is complemented by the organisation of regular in-person meetings in different global locations.

CDP’s work with disclosing companies, cities, states and regions takes place across 30 or so of the world’s largest economies every year. Our goal is to drive up both the frequency and quality of disclosure, and to do this we assign each organisation a dedicated account manager who will communicate with them directly by telephone and email. Technical guidance for disclosing is offered in multiple languages and staff in various countries operated a helpdesk service. A huge number of webinars and workshops for disclosing organisations are held each year around the world, and in a large number of countries we also publish national reports in the local language and hold launch events to celebrate the close of each annual reporting cycle.

CDP’s scoring system offers a further opportunity to build awareness and capacity. The quality of the action revealed in each organisation disclosure is assigned a score which is either made public or kept confidential depending on the CDP program concerned. CDP makes the scoring methodology available to the disclosing organisations and operates a system through an international network of partners whereby each discloser has the opportunity to discuss how their score was arrived at and how it could be improved by taking more or better environmental action.
