Technical Officer – Scoring ACT project

Job Purpose and Background

CDP is offering an exciting opportunity for somebody with an interest in climate change and climate change data, policy and finance to support CDP’s technical work, with a particular focus on scoring activities.

We are looking for someone who is reliable, efficient and passionate and who takes pride in working to a high standard. The successful applicant will work as part of the Scoring team on the development and application of the Assessing low-Carbon Transition project (ACT). This project aims to measure a company’s contribution to a low-carbon economy, this evolution from CDP’s current scoring approach will require a candidate that is comfortable working in a creative manner but has strong analytical and process-defining skills. They will be part of the scoring team and will need to work in close relationship with the Forests, Water, Supply Chain and Climate Change programmes and the relevant internal and external stakeholders

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying the ACT methodology to specific companies in order to determine their alignment with a low-carbon future
  • Delivering on the ACT scores for the Auto manufacturers, and prepare the assessments for Electric Utilities and Oil and Gas companies.
  • Data analysis of information provided by companies and gathering data to complement this information in order to provide a complete picture of the companies assessed.
  • Supporting the technical team in the continuous development and refinement of the scoring methodology (both discloser and performance scoring) and research/analysis as necessary to help develop a road map for scoring activities as they relate to ACT;
  • Helping in any other technical tasks that might be necessary within the Technical Team, the Supply Chain programme or CDP more generally.
  • Performing data management activities, such as operating databases, producing spreadsheets, comparing data sets, or other data related tasks;

Required skills and experience:

  • Background (commercial and/or academic) experience in environment, GHG and/or financial accounting and current issues related with these disciplines, and the willingness to develop a high level of knowledge (Master’s preferred);
  • Basic knowledge of Auto manufacturer sector and/or Electric utilities and/or Oil and Gas sector, especially as it relates to environmental issues and emissions of these sectors.
  • Very good attention to detail;
  • A self starter;
  • Ability to deliver results to tight deadlines;
  • IT literate with excellent knowledge of Excel; database management knowledge would be an advantage;
  • Experience in working with Customer Relations Manager systems and the data from it.

This is a full time role on a one-year fixed term contract based at CDP’s London office reporting to the Senior Manager, ACT.

Salary and benefits: £21,700 – £24,000 per annum, annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (increasing to 30), generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.
