Senior Manager, Climate Change, CDP North America

Job purpose and background

CDP North America is seeking candidates for the new position of Senior Manager, Climate Change.

The focus of this role is to undertake analysis and generate insights on climate issues to inform corporations, investors, policymakers and governments. This position is suited to an enterprising individual who can undertake detailed analysis to match their big picture thinking on climate challenges and solutions.

Key responsibilities

  • Draw new insights on trends and best practices in climate action to inform and engage corporations, investors, policymakers and governments on the actions they need to take to support a thriving economy that works for people and planet.
  • Undertake analysis based on wide-ranging sources of information including the large volume of data and information disclosed to CDP by thousands of companies and governments; news and current affairs; academic and scientific publications.
  • Present CDP’s insights in a simple, concise and compelling manner in a variety of written and verbal communications, including reports, articles, digital and social media outputs, infographics, visual presentations, and public speaking engagements.
  • Act as a climate expert with CDP’s stakeholders and represent CDP in strategic collaborations.
  • Operate as a member of CDP North America’s Global Initiatives team, working closely with team members responsible for forests insights, water security insights, and data. Operate as a member of CDP’s Climate Change global team.
  • Manage and grow CDP North America’s climate insights work, establishing programmatic objectives; building CDP’s public profile; contributing to/managing cross-team projects and collaborations; meeting revenue targets; managing a simple budget; philanthropic fundraising.

Required skills and experience

  • Specialist knowledge of one or more current issues in climate change, plus strong general knowledge of climate change as it relates to corporate behavior and public policy. Knowledge of corporate disclosure and financial reporting would be desirable.
  • A degree in business, climate science, public policy, sustainability or a related specialty, plus at least five years of relevant professional experience. An advanced degree would be desirable.
  • Deep thinking, comprehension and analytical skills combined with exceptional writing and public speaking skills. An ability to supply a list of recent publications and public speaking engagements would be desirable.
  • Readiness to lead a small program with growth potential. This requires knowledge of how to set objectives and work plans; manage projects and cross-team collaborations; manage a budget and revenue targets; develop funding proposals. Recent experience of managing a fast-growing program or a complex project would be desirable.
  • An organized and methodical approach to plan and deliver against a varied workload; to manage competing priorities under your own initiative; and to work to strict deadlines.

This is a full time role based at CDP North America’s New York City office.
