Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Forests

Role

If you’re passionate about forests and want to have a global impact on saving this vital resource by working at the critical nexus of private and public sectors, then this is the perfect opportunity for you. CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual to lead on the development and implementation of an ambitious Monitoring and Evaluation program spanning two projects funded by the Norwegian government.

The successful candidate will work with various colleagues across CDP to help them collect, store and analyze their data, ensuring that the information gathered is used to make evidence-based decisions and improve outcomes and impact for catalyzing action among the private sector and financial institutions working towards zero deforestation.

Reporting to the Forests Program Manager (of the two projects) and the Director of Forests, and working closely with internal stakeholders, the incumbent will drive the development and implementation of M&E approaches in support of the Forest’s program theory of change

About CDP’s forests program

CDP’s forests program works to remove commodity driven deforestation from corporate value chains to effectively contribute to a below 2degree, water secure world; and to decouple deforestation from forest risk commodity production. CDP’s work on forests was launched in 2014 and now boasts the backing of 525 financial institutions with over $96 trillion in assets. The program provides critical forests related data from the world’s largest corporations that buy, sell or trade key forests risk commodities (cattle products, palm oil, soy products and timber). The data is used to inform the global market place on investment risk and commercial opportunity, and to catalyse action, supporting companies in their efforts to remove deforestation from their supply chains.

The role will be fixed term contract starting as soon as possible and ending 28 Feb 2021.

Salary range: £28,000 - £30,000 per annum dependent on experience.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing a consolidated M&E plan for the program, aligned with approved consolidated Results Framework and train staff to use data collection tools in an appropriate way
  • Coordinating the management of a centralized M&E and knowledge management system across teams and regional offices.
  • Developing typologies for Forests program target groups
  • Leading on baseline, mid-term and final evaluation processes and ensure that appropriate external resources are commissioned to support the process
  • Advising the Project Board on the application of theory of change in project design and implementation and support the quality management process across the program
  • Supporting colleagues across CDP to identify the information that they need to collect from the program’s stakeholders in order to deliver on the agreed results frameworks
  • Working with staff to develop systems to collect, store and analyze data, ensuring that the processes and systems adopted are ethical and in line with relevant data protection policy and legislation
  • Undertaking the analysis of data, including quantitative analysis, and presenting key findings in a way that is accessible to a non-specialist audience
  • Coordinating the dissemination of emerging project lessons in close cooperation with the Program Manager.

Required skills and experience:

  • A minimum of three years’ experience working with theories of change, results-based approaches, logical frameworks; includes development of monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Knowledge of common spreadsheet and database programs e.g. MS Excel, Access, etc., as well as quantitative analysis software (such as SPSS or similar) and qualitative analysis (such as NVivo or similar) for data collection and analysis
  • Experience of undertaking quantitative and qualitative analysis and knowledge of different research and evaluation methods
  • Understanding of ethical and data protection issues, and ability to address these in line with relevant policy and legislation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; excellent written and spoken English

Desired skills and experience:

  • Relevant degree level education
  • Familiarity with the project cycle (design, implementation, supervision, monitoring, evaluation) and with contemporary work relevant to evaluation and impact assessment of policy-oriented natural resource management research
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills

To Apply:

Please email your CV and a covering letter (which should be no more than two pages) setting out how you meet the required skills and experience and key responsibilities to: [email protected] with M&E Officer, Forests in the subject line by 5pm Sun 28 April.

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK. Interviews are planned for the week of 29 April 2019.
