SBTi Partnerships Manager, Science Based Targets

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s work on the Science Based Targets Initiative.

About the SBTi

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a joint initiative between CDP, UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and World Wildlife Fund, aiming to catalyze change towards a net-zero economy by driving the adoption of GHG emission reduction targets in the corporate sector that are consistent with the ambition required to keep temperature increase well-below 2°C. About the role

The SBTi Partnerships Manager is a new position. The postholder will work to create relationships, grow and maintain existing relationships globally with the goal of accelerating the adoption of SBTs and embedding SBTs in relevant frameworks, financial products and initiatives. A core responsibility will be to manage and expand the number of partners engaged in the SBTi’s Business Ambition for 1.5C campaign. You will report to the Business Ambition for 1.5C campaign lead, with matrix reporting to CDP’s Commit to Action Global lead. You will also work in close coordination with the SBTi Corporate Engagement team and the Steering Committee of the initiative to ensure coordination and maximization of opportunities.

About you

The ideal candidate is highly motivated to create positive change through corporate climate action, thrives in a dynamic, multi-stakeholder environment, enjoys thinking holistically and creatively as well as working on implementation and delivery. The role is flexible and requires an understanding of different stakeholders including civil society organizations, industry organizations, financial institutions and financial products, supply chains and procurement levers. The goal of the position is to embed SBTs and science-based net-zero emissions targets standards in corporate practices through amplifiers.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing the stakeholder’s engagement strategy to scale the promotion of the Business Ambition for 1.5C campaign and increase adoption of SBTs in the corporate sector by
  • Mapping relevant initiatives and actors in the investors, partners and suppliers engagement initiatives;
  • Developing actionable strategies for each stakeholders group that maximizes existing initiatives and resources while having a creative and forward-looking approach;
  • To Implement the strategies in coordination with the SBTi Corporate Engagement Team;
  • Co-develop tailored resources as needed to deliver on the strategies, in collaboration with the SBTi Corporate Engagement team and SBTi Knowledge Manager;
  • To coordinate and support outreach to stakeholders as part of the SBTi consultative processes on technical projects
  • Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required.

Required skills and experience

  • Be a professional, effective and flexible team player, with proven ability to work with high-level representatives from the business, investors and civil society community
  • 5+ years professional experience, preferably within a corporate sustainability, account management and/or relationship management role;
  • Good knowledge of corporate GHGs accounting and science-based target setting is required;
  • Background in sustainability, ESG and/or sustainable development;
  • Ability to digest and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences;
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and able to work independently in a remote work environment;
  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) with excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Proven project management skills;
  • Results oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a constantly evolving environment;
  • Ability to work in an international and multi-cultural setting.
