Grants Management, Compliance and Reporting Officer

Job purpose and background

As Grants Management, Compliance and Reporting Officer for CDP’s UK government-funded programmes, you will develop and implement systems and processes that enable us to effectively manage our multiple UK government grants. Working closely with CDP colleagues from a range of teams, your experience of grant management and compliance will shine as you assist in understanding, communicating and meeting funder requirements.

This new role will help build capacities across CDP’s global offices that is critical to CDP’s continued growth and success. To succeed in this role, you must be detailed-orientated but also able to see the big picture, relish responsibility, be able to cope with challenges and communicate well. Thus, you will need to be determined, tenacious and focused on solutions.

About the Development Team

CDP’s Global Development Team is ambitious, dynamic and at the heart of everything CDP does. We build partnerships, develop compelling proposals and resource CDP’s strategy and mission. We focus on quality assurance and donor accountability. Our Global Team is based in London and works virtually with colleagues based in the US, Europe and Brazil.

Key responsibilities include:

Grant and contract management

  • Leading grant and contract administration for UK government grants
  • Ensuring timely communication with donor (or designee – i.e programme management consulting firms) to resolve problems and address grant management information requests
  • Working with CDP’s finance and legal teams to manage grant and contractual financial processes (e.g. timesheets) and minimise the risk of ineligible costs
  • Ensure accurate grant tracking and income reporting, in close cooperation with internal and external colleagues
  • Developing a monthly grant management analysis for project teams across Global Offices to ensure appropriate risk management of key UK government grants
  • Ensure adequate coordination with UK government MEL (Monitoring, evaluation and learning) coordinator on relevant issues related to all UK government projects (informed by cross-CDP conversations and collaboration)
  • Engaging with project leads across CDP offices to coordinate resourcing across these grants, with specific attention to co-funding requirements and implications for staffing.

Grant compliance

  • Organising kick-off, monthly and quarterly meetings with project staff and ensure the grant contract clauses and all project-related requirements are complied with
  • Coordinating internal teams to complete project deliverables as per project schedule and within budget
  • Ensuring all contractual obligations are adhered to
  • Ensuring all staff complete timesheets in accordance with grant agreement requirements.

Grant reporting

  • Working with colleagues from across CDP to develop and deliver reports to a high standard, in line with grant agreement requirements and timelines, facilitate financial information between project stakeholders and revise project related documentation (Gantt charts, GESI, MEL plans) as required
  • Supporting programme teams to develop narrative and financial reports that are aligned with grant agreement requirements
  • Building staff capacity and providing support to ensure grants are managed in compliance with donor requirements.

You will have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  • Experience in grant management, coordination and reporting of UK government grants
  • Experience or demonstrable understanding of donor contract and budget management, reporting and cost eligibility
  • Experience identifying compliance issues and developing tools, processes or procedures to improve compliance
  • Experience using resource management and planning skills to develop efficient systems and processes to support effective grant management.
  • A strong team player, resourceful and committed to meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong ICT skills is essential and proficiency with fundraising databases desirable.
  • Awareness of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion and/or Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong administration and organisational skills with a methodical approach to working on several tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines.

Desirable criteria

  • Strong ICT skills is essential and proficiency with fundraising databases desirable.
  • Awareness of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion and/or Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning desirable
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong administration and organisational skills with a methodical approach to working on several tasks simultaneously and meeting deadlines.

This is a fixed term 12-month contract based at CDP’s Central London office when it reopens. Home-working is necessary during the current lockdown period. This role reports to CDP’s Senior Development Advisor, Governments. Flexible working will be considered.

Salary and benefits: £30-36,000 per annum, 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, annual discretionary bonus (depending on company performance), Employee Assistance Programme, life assurance, training and development, flexible working opportunities and other benefits.
