Each of CDP’s questionnaires, on climate change, water and forests, has an individual methodology that scores responses across four levels: disclosure, awareness, management and leadership. Each level is translated into a single letter, representing a company’s overall score and ensuring it is on its journey to environmental stewardship.
For climate change, a company’s score is made up of two factors: 1) the level of detail and the comprehensiveness of its responses, and 2) its awareness of climate issues, management methods and its progress on acting on climate change. A minimum threshold must be met for a company to achieve a Leadership band. To get here, a company’s response must be public upon submission. To achieve an A-List status, the verification of both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions is mandatory, this must cover 70% of these emissions, and no significant, relevant emissions can be excluded. Gross Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission figures also need to be reported.
