The CDP Private Markets Program facilitates engagement, disclosures and data-driven insights on private companies’ environmental management. Financial Institutions can leverage standardized data through CDP disclosures for comprehensive baselining and subsequent monitoring of private investment and lending portfolios at scale.

Asset owners can engage with fund managers on best practice CDP disclosures at fund or portfolio level. Meanwhile fund managers can engage individual portfolios on relevant environmental metrics from CDP questionnaires

### Program features

### Why are private markets important?

As financial institutions measure, assess and manage financed emissions across investment and credit portfolios, lack of standardized disclosures and insights on environmental impacts presents a clear risk to their portfolio risk management and limits access to broader climate transition opportunities. While climate reporting among publicly traded companies has been mainstreamed, standardized environmental disclosures are lagging for private companies.

### How financial institutions are using the program

- To meet requirements for assessment and reporting standardization for financial sector net zero plans and disclosures across public and private markets.
- To streamline environmental engagement across fund managers and portfolio companies.
- To gain insights on environmental practices and impacts of portfolio companies, including benchmarkable data for private markets.
- To identify and leverage transition finance opportunities
- To get ahead of regulation and future policy mandates.
- To facilitate disclosures from portfolio companies, establish transparency and manage environmental performance.
