The research will help to improve decision making and increase engagement between investors. Ultimately, we are aiming to change corporate behaviour and reduce emissions.
In this report we launch an oil and gas CDP League Table that ranks 11 of the largest and highest-emitting global oil and gas companies.
The CDP research report outlines which oil and gas companies are best prepared for the low carbon transition. The oil and gas industry is one of the most emissions intensive in the world and the executive summary covers the impact of climate change risk on, for example, oil reserves and oil investing and ranks which oil and gas companies perform best against certain climate change metrics.
The oil and gas industry and its products account for 50% of global CO2 emissions.
Expected 2016 capex spend for the 11 companies is US$160bn, yet only an estimated 1.5% going to low-carbon assets.
On average, the 11 companies in our sample lost 6% of their natural gas production through flaring and methane emissions.
