Senior Technical Officer - Net Zero Campaigns for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)

Job purpose and background

Are you passionate about sustainability? Do you have experience working with partners to translate sustainability visions into metrics?

CDP is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Disclosure team in London for a 2 year fixed term contract. This role represents an excellent opportunity for an individual early in their career in sustainability, or for someone looking to move into corporate sustainability from the NGO perspective.

This role will focus on supporting CDP’s ambition to improve SME reporting capability by providing a simple, modular and easy to understand open framework and scoping out recommendations for future SME reporting. Ultimately, SMEs would be empowered to report progress against their commitments and provided with a clear way to demonstrate their climate leadership. You will work closely with global teams across the organisation and externally with partners such as We Mean Business, the International Chamber of Commerce & the Exponential Roadmap Initiative for this project. We are looking for someone who is reliable, efficient, passionate, has expert knowledge about sustainability and who takes pride in working to a high standard.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conduct desktop research which supports co-designing a streamlined reporting framework
  • Analysis of customer feedback data with production of reports with conclusions and recommendations to improve questionnaires and data outputs
  • Create SME transitions visions with our partners
  • Define metrics requirements to track sustainability commitments of SMEs
  • Draft questions and guidance for questions necessary tailored for SMEs and data users
  • Author questions into our systems and test the systems to ensure they deliver on functionalities for the SME questionnaires
  • Provide expert advice on how to respond to the questionnaires for internal and external stakeholders
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on the questionnaires and requested data to partners, stakeholders and SME responders
  • Track the disclosure cycle and define the metrics to measure success of the project
  • Support the Disclosure Evolution team on NextGen work and provide advise on improvements on process, systems and content
  • Support the wider Disclosure team as required
  • Ability to deliver results to tight deadlines;
  • Good background in environment, GHG and current issues related with ESG, and the willingness to develop a high level of knowledge (Master’s preferred);
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;

The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.

Required skills and experience:

  • Ability to work independently, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to deliver results to tight deadlines
  • Keen interest in corporate sustainability and related company challenges
  • Good background in environment, GHG and current issues related with ESG, and the willingness to develop a high level of knowledge (Master’s preferred)
  • Ability to work with global colleagues, and develop strong internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in a similar role, working in NGOs and/or commercial organisations (Desirable)
  • Experience of working in a global organisation (Desirable)
  • Additional language skills (Desirable)

This is a full-time role based at CDP’s Central London office reporting to the Head of Disclosure Evolution (working from home in interim while lockdown restrictions are in place).

Salary and benefits: £28,000, per annum, 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, annual discretionary bonus (depending on company performance), Employee Assistance Programme, life assurance, training and development, flexible working opportunities and other benefits.
