Senior Technical Officer - Cities Scoring

Job purpose and background

Do you have a keen eye for data and passionate about developing a career in environmental sustainability? CDP has an excellent opportunity for you to join the fast-paced and diligent scoring team.

CDP scores companies and cities on their environmental performance. We are looking for a Senior Technical officer to join the CDP Scoring team and contribute to the successful delivery of the 2021 CDP Cities scoring process. The successful candidate will be involved in running the annual scoring process with main responsibility for the scoring of cities responses. For the right candidate this experience could lead to excellent opportunities and supercharge a career in sustainability.

About the Scoring Team

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Scoring team which sits in the Disclosure & Assessment department and assesses the disclosure of thousands of companies and hundreds of cities in order to generate a score that is a snapshot of their environmental impact. You will have the opportunity to understand urban environmental impacts and apply your analytical skills to assessing their impacts and actions, helping to drive change.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working with the scoring team to deliver CDP’s annual scoring cycle, including:
  • Project managing a small team to complete the scoring of cities responses
  • Testing the autoscoring of responses
  • Completing manual scoring tasks
  • Carrying out quality assurance and data quality processes on scoring
  • Responding to technical queries on implementation of the scoring methodologies
  • Developing internal and external communication and training materials on scoring
  • Liaising with the Cities team, conducting webinars
  • Data analysis of scoring trends
  • Supporting scoring IT tools

Required skills and experience:

  • Academic and/or professional experience in climate change, water security and/or deforestation
  • High attention to detail and ability to work to tight timelines
  • Relationship management, ability to coordinate with different teams for overall project delivery
  • The ability to understand, organize and analyse qualitative and quantitative data;
  • Good proficiency with IT tools, MS tools and especially the use of excel for data analysis;
  • Flexible, diligent working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully.

Desirable:

  • Subject matter expertise on national and/or sub-national governments and climate change
  • Language skills in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French

This is a full-time contract, working at CDP’s Central London office (once restrictions are lifted).

Salary: circa £27,000 per annum pro rata until end of March 2022, plus potential for extension subject to further funding
