We are seeking a highly motivated
individual to support CDP’s Cities, States and Regions work for the European
Climate Pact Secretariat. CDP Europe’s Cities, States and Regions
team engages every year with more than 250 cities and 50 states and regions to
start measuring and managing their climate mitigation, climate adaptation,
water security and forests data.
CDP Europe is one of the operators of the European Climate Pact Secretariat. The European Climate Pact is an EU-wide initiative inviting people, communities and organisations to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe. Individuals and organisations – including cities, states and regions – can get involved in the European Climate Pact in many ways. One of them is “pledging” i.e. committing to concrete action – whether small sustainable choices or big, bold projects – and sharing ideas and initiatives with others to inspire them to join.
The role includes:
- Supporting the European Climate Pact
pledging process for cities,
states and regions;
- Engaging directly with
cities, states and regions’ representatives to entice them to pledge, by making
phone calls, sending personalised emails, organising webinars, in-person
meetings, and other outreach modes;
- Overseeing and
conducting the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) of cities, states,
and regions pledges; in particular setting up processes to monitor these
pledges, conceptualize and coordinate reporting against them, and verify that
pledges fulfil certain ambition criteria;
- Act as Helpdesk Officer in the Climate Pact
Secretariat for outreach and stakeholder coordination, Cities and Regions;
- Creating relevant
engagement materials and content;
- Coordinating relationships
with various organisations;
- Analysing data and preparing
reports;
- Assisting with ad-hoc tasks
as required.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum BA/BSc degree or
similar work experience;
- 3+ years’ relevant
experience and interest in working with European local and regional governments;
additional experience in working with national governments, NGOs, foundations
or companies is an advantage;
- A general understanding of
the issues of climate engagement of cities, states and regions in its wider
range: emissions reduction, climate adaptation, resilient cities, renewable energy,
sustainable consumption, waste and water management, transport, forest, fair transition,
etc;
- Strong personal drive, demonstrable
ability to take initiative, multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure;
- Excellent communication and
presentation skills, both written and verbal; ability to explain complex or
challenging topics clearly and succinctly;
- At ease in stakeholder-facing situations, excellent sense for
interpersonal contact, and confidence
in interacting with high-level representatives from public and private sectors,
using determination and diplomacy;
- Project management
experience, especially in the context of government-funded projects, is an
advantage;
- Attention to detail with good
research, writing and drafting skills;
- Proficiency with Microsoft
Office (esp. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
- Affinity for data;
- Ability to quickly grasp
and master new IT system;
- Ability to work with teams
in a multi-national setting;
- Proficiency in English;
further European languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Polish, are
a strong advantage.

The successful candidate will work five days per week in our Berlin office and must be able to work legally in Germany. This full-time role is based at our office in Berlin, Germany, will report to the Senior Project Lead, European Climate Pact, and will work closely with colleagues in CDP Europe to deliver the Climate Pact Secretariat.
