  • Are you passionate about city climate action?
  • Do you believe that action at the local level is an essential to creating a resilient, healthy, and prosperous society and to meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement?

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support CDP’s Cities, States and Regions work for the European Climate Pact Secretariat. CDP Europe’s Cities, States and Regions team engages every year with more than 250 cities and 50 states and regions to start measuring and managing their climate mitigation, climate adaptation, water security and forests data.

CDP Europe is one of the operators of the European Climate Pact Secretariat. The European Climate Pact is an EU-wide initiative inviting people, communities and organisations to participate in climate action and build a greener Europe. Individuals and organisations – including cities, states and regions – can get involved in the European Climate Pact in many ways. One of them is “pledging” i.e. committing to concrete action – whether small sustainable choices or big, bold projects – and sharing ideas and initiatives with others to inspire them to join.

The role includes:

  • Supporting the European Climate Pact pledging process for cities, states and regions;
  • Engaging directly with cities, states and regions’ representatives to entice them to pledge, by making phone calls, sending personalised emails, organising webinars, in-person meetings, and other outreach modes;
  • Overseeing and conducting the MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) of cities, states, and regions pledges; in particular setting up processes to monitor these pledges, conceptualize and coordinate reporting against them, and verify that pledges fulfil certain ambition criteria;
  • Act as Helpdesk Officer in the Climate Pact Secretariat for outreach and stakeholder coordination, Cities and Regions;
  • Creating relevant engagement materials and content;
  • Coordinating relationships with various organisations;
  • Analysing data and preparing reports;
  • Assisting with ad-hoc tasks as required.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum BA/BSc degree or similar work experience;
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience and interest in working with European local and regional governments; additional experience in working with national governments, NGOs, foundations or companies is an advantage;
  • A general understanding of the issues of climate engagement of cities, states and regions in its wider range: emissions reduction, climate adaptation, resilient cities, renewable energy, sustainable consumption, waste and water management, transport, forest, fair transition, etc;
  • Strong personal drive, demonstrable ability to take initiative, multi-task, prioritise and work under pressure;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal; ability to explain complex or challenging topics clearly and succinctly;
  • At ease in stakeholder-facing situations, excellent sense for interpersonal contact, and confidence in interacting with high-level representatives from public and private sectors, using determination and diplomacy;
  • Project management experience, especially in the context of government-funded projects, is an advantage;
  • Attention to detail with good research, writing and drafting skills;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (esp. Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word);
  • Affinity for data;
  • Ability to quickly grasp and master new IT system;
  • Ability to work with teams in a multi-national setting;
  • Proficiency in English; further European languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, German, Dutch, Polish, are a strong advantage.

What we offer:

  • Fixed term contract based at CDP’s Berlin office with a possibility to extend subject to resources;
  • Exciting and challenging tasks in a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated team;
  • Working with many dedicated and passionate people for a good cause;
  • Competitive NGO salary and annual bonus (depending on company results);
  • 30 days annual holidays;
  • Flexible working hours;
  • Company Pension with Allianz;
  • Monthly contribution to public transport ticket (BVG Monatskarte);
  • Modern office at WeWork (Sony Center) with free networking events, and hot and cold beverages.

The successful candidate will work five days per week in our Berlin office and must be able to work legally in Germany. This full-time role is based at our office in Berlin, Germany, will report to the Senior Project Lead, European Climate Pact, and will work closely with colleagues in CDP Europe to deliver the Climate Pact Secretariat.
