Senior Communications & Policy Officer (Fixed-Term)

Job Purpose and Background

Do you have a passion for the environment and sustainability? Do you want to use your communication skills and experience to make a difference? We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications & Policy Officer, based in New Delhi. Reporting to CDP India’s Director. You will be experienced in communications, comfortable with doing research and writing your own content for articles for web and social media. You will be creative and happy to add experience in policy to your skill set. In this new role you will be responsible for leading communications and supporting engagement with an expert set of policy and thought leaders.

Key responsibilities include:

Communications

  • Lead, develop and implement an integrated multi-channel communications strategy in India, in line with CDP’s Strategy in India and the Global Communications Strategy / guidelines
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of communications plans and campaigns for specific programs of activity in the Indian market, sometimes in collaboration with partner organisations
  • Communicate and champion CDP’s brand and strategic positioning to key stakeholders in the region through CDP’s channels
  • Coordinate with CDP Global Communications team to implement global communications in India

Media Outreach

  • Lead, develop and implement a regional plan to maximize CDP India’s media coverage through compelling news stories, thought leadership, proactive and reactive media outreach, working closely with the global communications team
  • Build and maintain relationships with target journalists and editors in major media outlets in the country (broadcast, print, web and social media) to ensure widespread coverage of CDP India’s work in the region, mission and the value of environmental disclosure to non-state actors
  • Draft press releases, media briefings and advisories, and other media materials for CDP India as required
  • Work with the global communications team to translate global media campaigns to key audiences in the country, remaining receptive to global and country specific media trends/hooks in the trade and environmental space
  • Identify and proactively act upon media opportunities to maximize media coverage of CDP India

Policy Research

  • Track ongoing policy trends in the climate change space and engage with the relevant stakeholders on regular basis
  • Develop contacts to liaison with key policy / decision makers in the space
  • Conduct policy research and analysis to support existing projects and proposals; process research findings to identify and recommend best practices

Content Development

  • Research & develop creative content for CDP India in line with CDP’s central content strategy and plan, for CDP reports, media articles, blogs, social media, marketing collateral, etc., working closely with the global content team
  • Provide communications steer to CDP India staff with the production of regional reports, workshops, webinars, and event management
  • Create and write compelling and original content for marketing materials, print and digital publications, newsletters, annual and thought leadership reports, targeted to CDP stakeholders, partners and sponsors
  • Support the Director of CDP India on ad hoc projects and carry out any other work that supports CDP India’s operations and international presence, as required

You will have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree with minimum of 5+ years’ full-time work experience
  • Experience in developing communications strategies and plans
  • Experience of working in a multi-national medium or large organisation, working with global teams
  • Strong written communications skills, with experience in drafting articles, reports, policy briefs etc.
  • Experience of working with the media to get coverage and promotion of CDP stories
  • High accountability, ownership of tasks and ability to meet press deadlines
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Strong research and analysis skills with the ability to turn complex information and data into easy to read and understand briefings and articles
  • Ability to network and build relationships internally and externally
  • Excellent command over English language required; both verbal and written
  • An interest in the environment, climate change and sustainability

Desirable criteria:

  • Have a network within the media sector of journalists and/or publication editors
  • Working knowledge of content management systems
  • Experience of working with policy makers
  • Knowledge of how environmental polices are made and decided on at national level
  • Experience of working in the environmental sector / sustainability / climate change

This is a full-time role based at CDP’s New Delhi office for a fixed term of 2 years (with possibility of renewal based on performance).

Salary and benefits: INR 12,00,000 – 14,00,000 per annum exclusive of annual discretionary bonus (depending on company performance), 22 holidays (annually)plus bank holidays
