Senior Analyst, Financial Services, Reporting

Job Purpose and Background

Are you passionate about how financial services companies can contribute to a climate resilient, environmentally sustainable future? CDP are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Technical Reporting team to provide a critical contribution to CDP’s mission. This is an excellent opportunity to make an impact globally on how banks, insurers and asset managers respond to the key environmental challenges of climate change and deforestation.

You will utilise skills in project management, research and analysis to help develop CDP’s new financial services sector questionnaire and guidance, gaining understanding of current deforestation trends and best practices in forest stewardship within the financial services sector. This work will focus on developing new indicators to assess and report on the risks and actions being taken by banks on financing of palm oil and other forest-risk commodities with a focus on South East Asia. The role requires the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within CDP and externally, to analyse complex data and to think critically and innovatively.

The Reporting team develops CDP’s world leading questionnaires and guidance for organisations reporting environmental information to investors and other data users. We ensure the questionnaires push companies beyond business as usual, catalysing change in their environmental performance. We aim to balance completeness, transparency and quality of data disclosed with the practicality and resources required by companies to collect and report on this data within their own operations and throughout their value chain. You will report to the Senior Manager, Financial Services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking research to support the development and delivery of CDP’s financial services sector questionnaire and guidance with a focus on palm oil financing by banks;
  • Helping to facilitate industry working groups and managing key stakeholder relationships;
  • Preparing presentations and presenting information to colleagues and companies;
  • Conducting desk research and working in collaboration with several teams to draft new sector-specific questions and reporting guidance for the financial services sector;
  • Analysing response data to inform questionnaire revisions and development;
  • Writing and proof-reading reporting guidance and other technical documents;
  • Inputting questionnaires and guidance into CDP’s online systems;
  • Responding to internal technical queries on the financial services sector questionnaire and guidance.

Required skills and experience:

  • An academic qualification in a financial discipline and at least two years relevant experience in the financial services sector or related industry;
  • A good understanding of the banking, insurance or asset management with a passion for sustainable finance;
  • Awareness of climate change, water and forests issues in the context of financial services businesses;
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis skills;
  • The ability to communicate complex information in a simple and concise way;
  • Strong prioritisation, organisational and project management skills;
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Flexible, diligent and collaborative working style with a proven record of working within a team to deliver projects successfully.

Desirable skills (one or more of the following would be an advantage):

  • Experience in sustainable finance and/or environment, social and governance (ESG) risk management;
  • Risk management and/or financial reporting experience
  • Awareness of the Task force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures and the Paris Agreement
  • Understanding of sustainable finance frameworks/initiatives related to palm oil/forest-risk commodities
  • Previous experience with environmental reporting frameworks applicable to the financial services sector;

The role will be based in the CDP London office and reports directly to the Senior Technical Manager for Financial Services in the Technical Reporting team. It will be a fixed term contract of 21 months with the potential to extend based on future funding.

Salary and benefits: c£35000 per annum, annual discretionary bonus, 24 days’ holiday (increasing to 30), generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.

Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.
