Project Manager, Policy

Are you passionate about policy engagement in climate action? Would you enjoy collaborating with various stakeholders for global and sustainable goals and ambitions?

If you want to make your mark in a professional and fast paced NGO, this is the role for you. You will be building relationships with policy makers for an environmentally and economically sustainable future. You will be on the front line of international trends in climate and environmental policy whilst working with a global team internally and relevant external organizations communicating in both Japanese and English languages.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Directing engagement with government offices in Japan on environmental issues including climate change, water security and deforestation;
  • Participating in and coordinating the discussions at some initiatives including the Investor Agenda, as a representative of CDP Japan;
  • Collaborating and communicating with the global Policy team to implement policy engagement activities in Japan;
  • Drafting statements and reports to communicate CDP’s mission and activities with policy makers;
  • Attending relevant international/domestic events and meetings with key stakeholders.

Required skills and experience:

  • Minimum BA/BSc or an equivalent degree;
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Knowledge and interest in climate change, water and/or deforestation issues;
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and deliver projects on time;
  • Experience working collaboratively with a range of teams and external stakeholders, and liaising across different time zones and cultures;
  • Competency in computer skills and proven ability to learn and become proficient in new IT systems quickly.

Desired skills and experience:

  • 2-3 years professional experience in climate change, environment, sustainability and/or government roles and policies;
  • A working understanding of climate/water security/deforestation commitments, policies and actions undertaken by the Japanese government;
  • Experience or knowledge in sustainable finance.

This is a full time/part-time fixed contract role based in CDP’s Tokyo office reporting to the Senior Manager based in Japan starting in August 2021 for 12 months (negotiable).

Salary and benefits: Competitive NGO salary dependent on experience, flexible working opportunities, health insurance, welfare pension and others.
