Manager, Global Covenant Of Mayors

Job purpose and background

Do you care about environmental issues? Would you like to be at the heart of driving changes through environmental disclosure?

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join CDP’s Cities, States and Regions team as Manager to coordinate our work with the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) and be CDP’s technical expert in all GCoM related matters. The key areas of responsibility are data validation of cities’ responses against the requirements of the Common Reporting Framework, liaise with the GCoM secretariat and partner organisations, support the provision of technical expertise to GCoM initiatives through various technical working groups, provide technical expertise internally as well as to cities with data collection and reporting.   

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise to the GCoM secretariat, partners, cities and CDP colleagues
  • Review of cities’ data to determine alignment with the GCoM commitment and ensure smooth and timely annual validation process
  • Enhance the validation methodology and ensure maximum automation and alignment of CDP’s questionnaire with GCoM’s Common Reporting Framework
  • Provide technical input to CDP’s cities questionnaire development and data alignment with GCoM requirements
  • Understand and define data requirements to facilitate the transfer of data and information between CDP, GCoM and other partners
  • Develop and coordinate support and technical communications provided to GCoM-committed cities
  • Represent CDP externally and provide expertise in the technical working groups
  • Provide technical expertise to all GCOM related projects that CDP carries out
  • Manage the operational partnership with the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM) and other partners involved (e.g. ICLEI etc.)
  • Coordinate GCoM-related activities across the regions and the global CStaR team
  • Closely collaborate with CDP’s Data and Technology teams
  • Line manage one staff member who supports this role

The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.

Required skills and experience:

  • Subject matter expertise on sub-national governments and climate change with knowledge of greenhouse gas inventory methodologies used by cities including GCoM´s Common Reporting Framework
  • A minimum of 5 years working experience in a similar role/area
  • Experience in managing external relationships
  • A team player with the ability to work under pressure and to prioritise
  • Attention to detail and commitment to achieving high standards
  • High proficiency in English language
  • Ability to grasp IT and data requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point) and experience with data management

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Experience of engaging with the public sector and an understanding of the sub-national stakeholder landscape is advantageous
  • Knowledge of the following with regards to sub-national governments: drivers of deforestation, water security, resilience, adaptation, mitigation
  • Some line management experience
  • Data analysis and/or programming experience e.g. in “R” or Python
  • An interest in working for a global environmental NGO

The role is a full-time role based in London or Berlin and sits within the Cities, States and Regions team. This is a fixed-term contract for 22 months, starting asap.

Salary and benefits: Salary £33-38k p.a. (depending on location), flexible working, annual discretionary bonus, 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and others.
