Job Purpose and Background

Are you passionate about working with global businesses to prevent dangerous climate change? CDP is seeking a dedicated, mission-driven Project Officer to join the highly motivated, successful and ambitious Technical Working Group at the Science Based Targets initiative. The position is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to develop a career in environmental stewardship, to contribute significantly to the vital work of the SBTi in improving corporate action on climate change. The Project Officer for Technical Working Group is a new role within the SBTi, working at the forefront of action to develop pathways for setting climate change targets in line with the ambition required to limit warming to 1.5°C in industry and heavy emitting sectors. The postholder will work to support Technical Managers that are developing these target setting methodologies. You will be responsible for carrying out critical tasks including project management, meeting organisation, external communications and data analysis to facilitate the Technical Working Groups activities.

About the SBTi Team

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a joint initiative between CDP, UN Global Compact, the World Resources Institute, and World Wildlife Fund, aiming to catalyze change towards a net-zero economy by driving the adoption of GHG emission reduction targets in the corporate sector that are consistent with the ambition required to keep temperature increase well-below 2°C. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting technical managers for steel, cement and built environment 1.5˚C pathway development projects with project management and coordination responsibilities
  • Use and maintenance of SBTi project management and collaboration tools (e.g. Asana, Slack, Google Drive, etc.)
  • Support to develop resources to improve understanding of 1.5˚C pathway development projects internally and externally.

Essential skills and experience:

  • BA/BSc degree (environmental, geography or business preferred)
  • Proven success in providing effective administrative and analytical support
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills for operational support
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Results oriented, ability to handle multiple tasks and work in a constantly evolving environment
  • Entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and able to work independently in an international and multi-cultural remote work environment
  • Fluency in English with excellent written and oral communications skills.

Desired skills and experience:

  • Ability to digest and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Demonstrable passion for creating positive change through corporate climate action
  • Understanding of science-based targets and the evolving net-zero landscape
  • Experience in the built environment sector.

This is a full-time role reporting to the Senior Technical Manager, SBTs and based in our office in Berlin or London but would be temporarily working from home. Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK or Europe. We cannot sponsor this role.
