HR Advisor

Job purpose and background

Are you looking to work for a leading international not-for profit? Are you a highly experienced senior HR administrator looking for your next challenge or an HR advisor looking to move to larger international NGO? At CDP we have a new role in the HR & People Development department, to support the UK employee lifecycle process and manage talent acquisition. The HR Advisor is a key position contributing to the smooth running of the UK HR offering. If you have at least two years HR experience and are working towards level-5 CIPD we’d like to hear from you.

About the HR Team

CDP’s UK HR Team consists of the Director, two senior Managers, two business partners and two administrators. We work with our HR colleagues in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia Pacific to support nearly 450 employee globally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the administration process of the UK employee lifecycle
  • Overall responsibility for managing the recruitment process for the UK team and supporting and advising regional teams
  • Processing the monthly UK payroll and administering CDP’s employee pension scheme
  • Supporting with the annual review process, to include delivering internal training
  • Leading on aspects of and supporting with various HR projects such as our induction process
  • Leading on and supporting on employee relations cases
  • Providing HR advice to managers and employees
  • Developing, updating and implementing HR policies and procedures including our benefits offering
  • Responsibility for some aspects of Health & Safety at CDP, including DSE and fire safety
  • Supporting the HR team in the delivery of HR subject matter training courses as required
  • Maintaining the HR database (Softworks)
  • Providing administrative support to the Senior UK HR manager

The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs.

You will have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria:

  • Minimum two years experience in a support role in an HR function, including being responsible for some aspects of the HR function and leading on others.
  • Demonstrable administration experience of the employee lifecycle
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good IT skills using the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience of managing, developing and updating an HR information system
  • Excellent numerical and English language skills
  • Discrete, trustworthy and able to work with confidential information
  • Highly organised and motivated; able to work on own initiative
  • Positive and enthusiastic outlook even while working under pressure
  • A pro-active approach to work with a keen interest in learning and developing
  • Experience of delivering training, working on policies and procedures and working on HR projects
  • Desire to develop strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities/tasks
  • Working towards CIPD level 5 or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of researching, developing and implementing new HR policies and procedures
  • Experience of managing ER cases
  • Experience of using Softworks
  • Experience of using an automated recruitment tracking system (eg Team Tailor)
  • Experience of Health and Safety legislation
  • Worked in an NGO or charity and have a keen interest in the environmental sector.

This is a full time role based at CDP’s London office reporting to the Senior HR Manager. Due to the pandemic employees are currently working from home. Once we are able to return to office working it is expected that this role will be office based, with some flexibility for home working..

Salary and benefits: £30,000 to £37,000 per annum, 30 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, generous non-contributory pension provision, annual discretionary bonus (depending on company performance), Employee Assistance Programme, life assurance, training and development, flexible working opportunities and other benefits.
