Engagement Director - Central banks and financial supervisors

Job Purpose and Background

CDP is looking for a specialist with experience working for or with central banks or stock exchanges and is passionate about the need to incorporate climate (and wider environmental) risks and opportunities into decision-making throughout the financial system. This is an eight-month contract to the end of June 2019 to lead our engagement with central banks and financial supervisors and develop the organization’s strategy for work in this area in the future.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Senior-level engagement with central banks and financial supervisors / regulators: establishing relationships with Bank of England, Banque de France, Bundesbank, and Peoples Bank of China, as well as regulators from these countries, alongside additional members of the Central Banks and Supervisors Network of Greening the Financial System (NGFS).
  • Providing each organization above with one or more briefings which will guide their inputs to the NGFS, building on CDP’s data, disclosure, investor research and carbon pricing work to create an overarching narrative on climate risk and governance together with recommendations for action.
  • Working with investor groups to ensure that recommendations for action by central banks and financial regulators are integrated into policy messaging, and that messaging from institutional investors is aimed at financial regulators as well as other parts of government.
  • Liaising within CDP across the Policy, Climate Change, Technical Reporting and Investor Initiatives teams, to ensure outreach is coordinated and the work is embedded across CDP.
  • Presentation of a proposed strategy for CDP to take the work forward integrated into existing teams from July 2019.

Required skills and experience:

  • Experience of working within financial regulation / supervision and ability to speak credibly to high level individuals involved in financial policy.
  • Experience of working within the private sector, within Financial Institutions would be an advantage
  • An interest in environmental issues and the concept of climate risk disclosure.
  • Excellent communicator with a confident presentation and public speaking style.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to develop concepts and work plans, whilst remaining collaborative and understanding this project’s role in CDP’s wider work on sustainable finance.

This is a full time fixed-term role based at either CDP’s Central London office or Berlin office reporting to the Director of Policy Engagement.

Salary and benefits: Eight-month fixed term contract at the equivalent of £80-85k per annum and generous benefits.
