Engagement Volunteer Intern - Europe Middle East And Africa, CSTAR

About CDP's Cities, States and Regions program:

Over 920 local and regional governments worldwide are measuring and disclosing environmental data through CDP and ICLEI’s unified reporting system in order to manage emissions, build resilience, protect themselves from climate impacts and create better places for people to live and work.

The internship program

All our volunteer interns will be assigned to a volunteer intern supervisor and will receive an induction, on-the-job training, coaching and one-to-one support. On successful completion of their placement, volunteer interns can request a reference.

Interns will get an insight into how an international environmental NGO operates with the opportunity to attend meetings and ask questions.

Role, purpose and background

This internship is ideal for someone seeking to put into practice their engagement, research, and analysis skills. You will get to grips with the climate actions that cities, states and regions are taking to reduce emissions, adapt to climate change, and finance the clean economy transition.

Duration: 3 months - starting 1st July 2020

Days per week

We will be flexible in our approach and discuss your volunteering hours with you. We are looking for someone to volunteer with us for 3 days a week. This position will initially be remote due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Key tasks include

  • Supporting the EMEA team to ensure participation in CDP’s cities, states, and regions annual disclosure through phone calls and email support to sub-national governments in EMEA
  • Supporting the organization of disclosure-related initiatives including webinars
  • Tracking engagement communications
  • Research and analysis of CDP cities data and external sources to support city level-climate action
  • Helping to maintain an internal database for EMEA cities, states, and regions contacts

Required skills and competencies

  • Interest in cities and sustainability—particularly in mitigation and adaptation efforts, and green infrastructure projects;
  • Outgoing and personable attitude—superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage and follow up via phone and email;
  • The ability to come up to speed quickly and independently with technical information (such as emissions targets or Global Covenant of Mayors badge requirements);
  • Experience in analyzing data sets;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Desirable skills and competencies

  • Competency in Portuguese, Spanish or French.
  • Previous work experience.

Expenses

This is not a salaried position.

How to apply

To apply please email your CV and a covering letter setting out how you meet the required skills and competencies, which should be no more than two pages, to [email protected] with ‘EMEA Cities, States, and Regions Internship’ in the subject. The deadline is 5pm on Monday 15th June 2020.

Interested applicants must be eligible to volunteer legally in the UK.

Before you apply

We’ll only use the information you provide to process your application. For more details on how we use your information, see our applicants privacy notice. By emailing us your CV and covering letter, you are permitting CDP to use the information you have provided for recruitment purposes.
