Development Manager, Foundations

CDP’s Global Development Team is ambitious, dynamic and at the heart of everything CDP does. Half of CDP’s global income of £23 million is secured by our team and we have driven CDP to grow by 20% each year. There is significantly more potential – and we are expanding the team to reach even farther. As Development Manager, you will manage an ambitious and varied portfolio of current growing partnerships and promising prospects. You will drive forward fundraising with trusts and foundations, including corporate foundations – maximising opportunities and proactively seeking strategic partnerships.

This role is essential in our expanding team and organisation. You will develop ambitious, strategic and innovative funding partnerships with corporate foundations and companies, focussing on grants at the £500,000+ level. You’ll be the kind of person who searches for connections, chases opportunities, gets out from behind your desk to meet people, and influences internally and externally to achieve results. You will be driven, determined, tenacious and focused on solutions.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Research, develop and secure new sources of income from foundations, including corporate foundations and corporate donors, aligned with CDP’s ethical policies and with a strong focus on funders with a potential to give £500,000+ grants and funding opportunities.
  • Manage a portfolio of current foundation donors, building strong, strategic relationships and implementing creative engagement plans to maximise opportunities and income.
  • Write high quality funding communications, including proposals and grant reports.
  • Build excellent internal working relationships to engage staff at all levels, but particularly in CDP’s Corporations and Supply Chain team and Capital Markets team, to coordinate donor engagement and manage prospective and existing donors effectively.
  • Develop an excellent knowledge of CDP’s work, liaise with colleagues to prepare and present high-quality information such as tailored presentations and proposals for the donor. This includes working closely with colleagues in London and overseas.
  • Further develop and scale corporate fundraising strategy across CDP.

Person specification

  • Proven ability to build and manage foundation and corporate donor income streams, maximising the value of existing and prospective supporters.
  • Externally focused and proactive attitude, with the energy and passion to engage people, negotiate and persuade.
  • Confidence in working with senior corporate stakeholders internally and externally, using tact and diplomacy.
  • Proven track record of relationship building and grant proposals / reports for grants above £250,000.
  • Ability to understand diverse donor motivations and deliver a bespoke relationship to meet these. Demonstrable skill in adapting written and verbal communications for a philanthropy audience.
  • Excellent numeracy and attention to detail, ability to analyse and prepare budgets.
  • Experience of managing the complexities of restricted income projects.
  • Organised and methodical approach to plan and deliver against a varied workload, managing competing priorities under your own initiative and to strict deadlines.

Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent role based at CDP’s Central London office reporting to CDP’s Senior Development Manager - Trusts & Foundations. Remote and flexible working will be considered.

Salary and benefits: £40-45,000 per annum dependent on experience, annual discretionary bonus, 30 days’ holiday, generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance and other benefits.

Interested applicants must be eligible to work legally in the UK.
