Communications Assistant

Job purpose and background:

We have an exciting opportunity for a full time Communications Assistant to work in our communications team, based in our London headquarters. Reporting to CDP’s Digital Manager, the ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter with excellent administrative skills and a keen interest in PR as well as strong social media and digital communications capabilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Establish communications processes – draft briefing documents for management, track communications team KPIs and deliverables and compile media/press lists etc
  • Manage media monitoring and daily news updates
  • Update and manage resources and templates
  • Collate reports for funders
  • Organise inductions and prepare relevant materials
  • Manage centralised communications hub
  • Coordinate/manage corporate subscriptions
  • Assist with managing and sourcing media monitoring platforms
  • Collate monthly team report for CDP-wide meetings
  • Assist with media outreach and draft media briefings
  • Draft blogs and assist with content creation
  • Draft tweets and assist with social media
  • Update and monitor CDP's websites in liaison with line manager
  • Support with adding new features to the website
  • Assist with compilation and distribution of e-newsletters
  • Opportunities to take on further responsibility across the communications team and gain experience in specific areas of interest (e.g. media outreach work, content creation, or digital communications), in line with professional development goals.

Required skills and experience:

  • An understanding of and desire to work proactively to promote sustainability;
  • An interest in all aspects of communications, across media, content and digital
  • Good MS Office software skills (particularly Excel) and database fluency;
  • Strong administrative skills
  • Able to support a busy team
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills and an ability to meet deadlines under pressure
  • A proven fast learner - able to pick up new software and systems easily.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Strong written communications skills, with experience in drafting press releases, website and social media content creation
  • Working knowledge of content management systems
  • Understanding of search engine optimisation principles

Salary and Benefits: £22,223 offered on a fixed term 1 year contract in our London office, with potential for extension. Initially the role will be remote-based due to COVID-19, with the expectation to work from CDP’s London office when restrictions allow.
