Senior Manager, Water Security

Job Specification and background

Are you looking to join the global race to stabilise both the environment and the economy? Are you looking for a role that combines your professional experience with an ethical focus? CDP is where business leaders, financiers and policymakers turn for innovative, systemic solutions.

This is an exciting, impact-oriented role working on a globally significant issue – the global water crisis. You will have responsibility for the day-to-day operational management of the small but dynamic Water Security Team as well as the development and oversight of strategic partnerships, projects and outputs.

You will be empowered to lead on cutting-edge research, advocacy and innovation to ensure CDP’s water metrics, scoring methodologies and data insights are optimised to mobilise the world’s largest coalition of non-state actors to tackle the global water crisis. Ultimately, you will be working to put water at the heart of business, financial and policy decision-making.

About the team

Established more than a decade ago, CDP’s innovative Water Security initiative has driven a step change in the way in which the private sector engages with water issues. As we turn our sights to the future, we are seeking a dynamic individual to work alongside the Global Director of Water Security to provide the support and insights needed to deliver CDP’s Water Security Strategy globally.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operational running of the Water Security Team, including line management, professional development and mentoring of a small team; and working with team to identify objectives, priorities and develop and monitor the team’s work plan;
  • Identifying and seizing opportunities for advancing our work: through the development of new projects/partnerships and fundraising across a range of sources;
  • Ensuring CDP’s corporate questionnaires and scoring methodologies continue to drive best practice on water whilst collecting highly relevant data;
  • Ensuring CDP’s corporate, investor and cities teams around the world have what they need to execute CDP’s Water Security Strategy;
  • Leading on data analysis, cutting-edge research and development of insights that informs corporate best practice, mobilises institutional investors and engages policy makers;
  • Leading the monitoring and evaluation of progress against the Water Security Strategy and supporting new areas of strategic development;
  • Managing strategic external relationships, particularly with multilateral agencies and initiatives.

The precise description and nature of your job may be varied from time to time, and you may be required to carry out other duties as necessary to meet business needs. International travel will be required for up to 20% of your time.

Required skills and experience:

  • At least 6 years’ applied experience, in either the business or finance sectors with significant experience of advancing environmental agendas in either of these sectors;
  • A deep understanding of global water issues and the role of the private sector in addressing these issues;
  • Strong understanding of how the following entities are governed; corporations, investment firms, financial institutions, or institutional investors;
  • Be comfortable with multitasking and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • A proven track record of strategy execution and project management.
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to seize strategic opportunities where they exist;
  • Experience of managing people and building partnerships.
  • Strong data analytics experience;
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), presentation and marketing skills with a demonstrable pride in delivering high quality products and an eye for detail;
  • A proven track record in fundraising, proposal development and grant management.

Desired skills and experience:

  • An ability to quickly process complex information and bring new perspectives to solve challenges;
  • A deep understanding of the corporate reporting landscape;
  • Experience of working in a global organization;
  • Experience of deputizing for a senior leader;
  • Understanding of the role cities must play in delivering better water outcomes.

This is a full time, permanent contract based at CDP’s headquarters in Central London, UK. Flexible working is fully embraced by the organisation and we encourage you to explore this at interview.

Salary and benefits: Salary ranging from £40,000 - £45,000 per annum dependent on experience, annual discretionary bonus scheme (dependent on company performance), 30 days’ holiday excluding bank holidays, a generous non-contributory pension provision, life assurance, and others.
