2020 Engagement Fellowship

CDP North America is seeking two individuals for a fast-paced fellowship program in its New York City office. These fellows will be integral in forming and executing an outreach strategy for facilitating CDP disclosure from North American corporations with the largest environmental impact. Fellows will be responsible for building relationships with corporate sustainability and investor relations professionals at a range of seniority levels, and should be comfortable discussing a variety of sustainability topics including natural resource disclosure, corporate sustainability, socially-responsible investing and carbon accounting. Each fellow will develop expertise in discussing the business implications of climate change, water use and/or deforestation across a range of companies.

The candidate we seek:

A highly driven, self-motivated, meticulous individual with a knack for sales and inclination for relationship building. You have academic or professional experience in sustainability, environmental sciences and/or corporate affairs. You can effectively frame and communicate complex ideas and perform well under pressure. You bring a sense of purpose and excitement to the work you do and are eager to translate your passion into actionable results.

Key responsibilities:

  • Secure participation in CDP programs (Climate Change, Water Security and/or Forests) through phone calls and email support
  • Conduct research to build the business case for disclosure for targeted companies
  • Support all engagement-related initiatives and offer support to sector leads and CDP team leaders
  • Document all activity, including tracking engagement outreach

Key requirements:

  • A university degree in a related subject, or pursuing such a degree
  • Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with resistant parties, and the ability to pitch products and services
  • Familiarity with business implications to private sector companies represented by climate change, water use and/or deforestation (such as issues associated with timber, palm oil, soy and/or cattle products)
  • The ability to come up to speed on technical information quickly and independently and be able to communicate complex information in a digestible way with an understanding of the broader implications
  • Strong writing skills: must be able to accurately impart information in a concise yet comprehensive manner
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • The drive to take ownership and responsibility for specific areas of work
  • The ability to spot trends and opportunities as well as focus on details
  • The desire and ability to improve and streamline processes to better and more efficiently achieve program goals, rather than follow the status quo
  • The ability to meet deadlines under pressure

Compensation and expectations:

  • The fellowship is paid
  • Duration is February through late-September, with potential for staying on through the end of the year
  • Hourly commitment is 15-20 hours per week. Hours will vary depending on demand, and can be flexible to accommodate the fellow’s schedule
  • Fellows will be welcome to apply for any full-time positions that may arise during the fellowship.

To apply:

  • Interested candidates should email [email protected] , attaching a resume and a cover letter expressing your interest and suitability. Please use the following subject line: 2020 Engagement Fellow Application – [First Name Last Name]
  • Applications will be considered on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Early applications encouraged.
