CDP North America is seeking two engaging individuals for a fast-paced fellowship program in its New York City office. These fellows will be integral in forming and executing an outreach strategy for facilitating CDP reporting from the corporations in North America with the largest environmental impact. They will be responsible for building relationships with corporate sustainability and investor relations professionals at a range of seniority levels, and should be comfortable discussing a variety of sustainability topics including natural resource disclosure, corporate sustainability, socially-responsible investing, and carbon accounting. Each fellow will develop an expertise in discussing business implications from climate change, water, and/or deforestation across a wide range of companies.
Who you are: A highly-driven, meticulous individual with a knack for sales and a capacity for relationship building. You have academic or professional experience in the field of sustainability, environmental sciences, and/or corporate affairs. You can effectively frame and communicate complex ideas, and perform well under pressure. You bring a sense of purpose and excitement to the work that you do, and are eager to parlay your passion into actionable results.
Key responsibilities:
- Securing participation in CDP programs (climate change, water and/or forests) through phone calls and email support
- Conducting research to build the business case for disclosure for targeted companies
- Supporting all engagement-related initiatives, and offering support to sector managers and CDP team leaders
- Documenting all activity, including tracking engagement outreach
Key requirements:
- A university degree in a related subject, or pursuing such a degree
- Superior interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage with resistant parties, and to pitch services
- Familiarity with business implications to private sector companies represented by climate change, water use and/or deforestation (such as issues associated with timber, palm oil, soy and/or cattle products)
- The ability to come up to speed quickly and independently with technical information (such as CDP’s scoring methodology)
- Strong writing skills: must be able to accurately communicate technical information in a concise, yet comprehensive manner
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- The drive to take ownership and responsibility for particular areas of work
- The ability to spot trends and opportunities as well as focus on details
- The desire and ability to improve and streamline processes to better and more efficiently achieve program goals, rather than follow the status quo
- The ability to meet deadlines under pressure
Compensation and Expectations:
- The fellowship is paid
- Duration is late-January through late-September, with potential for staying on through the end of the year
- Hourly commitment is 15-20 hours per week. Hours will vary depending on demand, and can be flexible to accommodate the fellow’s schedule
