The science is clear that environmental action is more critical than ever before. 1.5°C, the more ambitious goal of the Paris agreement, is our guardrail to aim for. Emissions are at their highest level; but they must be halved by 2030. By this date, the world will face a 40% shortfall in water supply; yet our withdrawals still increase. Staying within 1.5°C means urgently halting forests loss; but global deforestation continues unabated.
Nothing less than a transformation of the economy is needed, and Europe’s companies, investors, cities, regions and policymakers can make or break this historic transition as leading levers for global change.
The CDP Europe Awards brings together these actors at the highest level to discuss how our economy’s interrelated environmental goals can be achieved. Unique fireside chats and panels debate what action Europe’s leaders must and will do – in 2020 – to protect themselves from environmental risks and seize the opportunities of the new sustainable economy.
Presenting CDP’s A List and Climetrics Awards to the companies, cities and investors championing action on climate change, water security and deforestation, the event will demonstrate the necessary pathway for a climate neutral and resource-secure future.
