The European Climate Pact - a movement to build a greener Europe

The European Climate Pact is an initiative of the European Commission supporting the implementation of the European Green Deal. It is a movement to build a greener Europe, providing a platform to work and learn together, develop solutions, and achieve real change.

The Pact provides opportunities for people, communities, and organizations to participate in climate and environmental action across Europe. By pledging to the Pact, European stakeholders commit to taking concrete climate and environmental actions in a way that can be measured and/or followed up. Participating in the Pact is an opportunity for organizations to share their transition journey with their peers and collaborate with other actors towards common targets.

CDP Europe is one of the partners operating the Pact Secretariat, providing strategic design, supporting operations, and building an EU-wide understanding about climate change while encouraging citizens and organizations to pledge to concrete climate and environmental actions.

CDP & the Pact How to join?
Why pledge via CDP? What happens next? What else is there?
CDP disclosure allows organizations to fully track progress against their sustainability strategy.
It showcases their existing commitments as European Climate Pact pledges without extra steps.
This is an opportunity to publicise your organization’s leadership, commitments, and targets, support a pan-European climate movement, and inspire others.
The Pact team at CDP will process your response and identify the concrete climate and environmental actions your organization is reporting on.
Some of these actions will be recognised as pledges and published on the official Pact website.
The pledging process does not affect your scoring.
Once you join the European Climate Pact community, CDP Europe will make sure to inform you of any relevant engagement and visibility opportunities within the Pact universe and beyond.
You will also be able to include additional information to your organization’s profile on the Pact website.
You can apply as well to be a Pact ambassador or make joint pledges with other actors.
For companies For cities For states and regions
From 2022, you will have an opportunity to automatically join the European Climate Pact.
You will also be able to synchronize your pledges’ reporting with your CDP disclosure.
In the submission page of the CDP ORS, you can now find a radio button for you to confirm your consent to join the movement to build a greener Europe.
CDP cities can have their data translated into Pact pledges with no additional steps should they choose to opt-in.
This can be done directly through CDP’s disclosure dashboard, under “partner initiatives”. The identified pledges will be recognised and published on the official Pact website.
For more information on which data points can be converted into pledges please access our guidance document here.
States and Regions can agree to have their data translated into Pact pledges by indicating it in the submission page of the questionnaire in the Online Reporting System (ORS).
The relevant submission question can be found under “The European Climate Pact Submission”.
For more information on which data points can be converted into pledges please access our guidance document here.
