Reporting climate change data to CDP

Benefits of reporting

Measurement, management and disclosure of greenhouse gas emissions and climate change data is an increasingly important aspect of standard business practice. There are numerous benefits for organizations gathering data in response to the CDP questionnaire, including:

  • Increased transparency to shareholders, clients and the public audience.
  • Identifying how the organization copes with threats arising from climate change.
  • Highlighting the business opportunities available.
  • Enhanced ability to increase efficiency and reduce unnecessary costs.

The CDP process helps supplier companies gather information which will provide valuable insight into their greenhouse gas emissions and climate change strategy. By disclosing through CDP's supply chain program, companies can:

  • Begin the process of calculating their carbon footprint.
  • Manage the risks and opportunities from climate change.
  • Identify areas where there is scope for energy efficiencies which in turn can lead to both emissions reductions and cost savings.
  • Benchmark against their peer group and showcase successes.

How to get started

If your organization has been invited to report to CDP you will have received an information request and an invitation to activate your online account. All responses to our questionnaire must be submitted to us through the CDP online response system.

For companies that have not yet received the information request, please ensure that you register and create an account.

The following points may be useful to consider prior to completing the CDP questionnaire:

  • Gathering information prior to completing the questionnaire will help to streamline data entry.
  • Reading through your last company response.
  • If your company belongs to a trade or industry association, please verify if these have tailored GHG disclosure guidance that might help with the completion of the questionnaire.
  • Consider whether your company wishes to submit their information publicly or chooses to keep their response private so that it is not listed on our website.

Support for responding companies

You can find reporting guidance and a wide range of support tools to assist companies in responding to CDP on our guidance pages. We also provide detailed guidance to assist with the individual sections of the questionnaire. Once logged into the online response system, you can access question-specific guidance to the right of each question.
