Our small, dedicated IT team is responsible for the development and support of our core reporting platform including our Online Reporting System, our data analysis system and our general office systems.  In partnership with our Global Digital Partner, Accenture, we aim to deliver an efficient, innovative and comprehensive service to our colleagues, members, disclosing companies and the wider community.

We are about to start working with a partner company to build our new website using Ruby on Rails, which will be integrated with our existing Microsoft applications.   Once it is launched, we will continue to enhance and maintain it to deliver new data products and tools for investors and other users of our data and environmental information disclosure system.

We are currently recruiting for four roles.

 

 Server Administrator

 

As the Systems Administrator, you will ensure that the servers, and the applications and websites on them, are available, reliable and secure.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the servers running our new website, Data Warehouse and analysis tools
  • Manage our Active Directory
  • Work with the development team to troubleshoot, and to deploy new releases of software.
  • Incident and problem resolution
  • Liaise with third parties, particularly our hosting partners.
  • Provide training and clear documentation for colleagues.

Essential skills and experience

  • 3 or more years administering and managing servers
  • Strong experience with Windows server 2008\2012, including Active Directory and IIS
  • Strong experience with Linux (any flavour), including Apache Tomcat
  • Excellent analytical and trouble-shooting skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Working with outsourcers and suppliers
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure

Desirable skills and experience

  • SQL Server 2008 and 2012
  • Shell scripting skills
  • Experience of supporting, maintaining and implementing clustering products
  • An understanding of TCP/IP, VLAN, VPN, Routing, DHCP, DNS
  • Familiarity with MS Dynamics CRM, SSIS, SSRS, Office 365, Ruby on Rails, Apache and other products used by CDP

 Quality Assurance Analyst

 

As the Quality Assurance Analyst, you will work closely with developers and users to plan and execute appropriate test strategies to ensure that delivered software works well.

Key responsibilities

  • Determining testing strategies, in consultation with other team members
  • Planning and carrying out integration and delivery testing of software developed by our partner organisations
  • Planning and carrying out system testing of software developed internally
  • Supporting user acceptance testing

Essential skills and experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience testing, writing test plans and scripts as well as executing them, within a commercial software development environment
  • Tenacity and extraordinary attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of formal testing techniques and practices, possibly gained through a formal testing qualification.
  • Familiarity with automated testing of webservices (eg SOAPUI or similar)
  • Familiarity with SQL, XML, HTML and web technologies
  • Experience of development using either asp.net and C# or Ruby on Rails
  • Familiarity with the software development lifecycle and role of quality assurance throughout

Desirable skills and experience

  • A commitment to using your professional skills to further the mission of CDP
  • Familiarity with at least some of MS Dynamics CRM, MS SharePoint, Visual Studio, SSRS, SSIS, Ruby on Rails, c#, asp.net

 Developer

 

As a Developer at CDP, you will work as part of a small, focussed team, delivering a mix of support and new development across all our applications.​

We are introducing Ruby on Rails into our Microsoft / .net environment, so Ruby on Rails skills would be a bonus, but this may also be an opportunity for a good C# / .net developer to broaden their skills.   We use an agile approach, working closely with our colleagues in other teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering robust, well-performing software which delights colleagues, members and everyone who uses it
  • Working with colleagues to identify and implement improvements to our software development practices
  • Improving our existing software by identifying refactoring opportunities and ensuring that all fixes and enhancements conform to improved practice.

Essential skills and experience

  • Excellent software engineering skills, using C# / .net
  • At least 2 years’ experience in building complex browser-based web apps
  • Experience of working with colleagues to understand their requirements and ideas and translate them into beautiful applications.
  • Familiarity with some or all of HTML / CSS / SQL / MVC

 Contract Infrastructure Analyst

 
Our new website will be based in a managed cloud, and we will also be moving some of our existing Windows-based services there to allow us to expose them through our website.  By the time you finish, our new infrastructure will be up and running smoothly, and our in house staff will be ready to support it.
 
Key responsibilities
  • Work with the project manager, website developers, existing and new managed service provider and IT support team to set up this new infrastructure
  • Put the processes and procedures needed to manage it in place. 
  • Plan and implement Active Directory for internal and external users
  • Set up appropriate backup and restore, monitoring, disaster recovery and other system management processes
  • Incorporate this infrastructure into our existing incident and change management processes
  • Support the development teams building the new website

Experience

You must have experience in most of the following.  A good candidate with a few technology gaps but the wherewithal to figure things out will be considered.

  • Strong experience with Linux (CentOS 7 is ideal), including Apache Tomcat
  • Strong experience with Windows server 2012, including IIS
  • Active Directory
  • SQL Server 2012, including SSRS and SSIS
  • A good understanding of networking protocols and products
  • Excellent analytical and trouble-shooting skills
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Working with outsourcers and suppliers
  • Working in a managed cloud IaaS environment such as AWS or Rackspace
  • Shell scripting skills
  • Exposure to Ruby on Rails and .net applications
